Topic
Global Climate Change and The Fate Of Bangladesh

Global Warming
Global Warming is

defined as the increase of the average temperature on Earth.

As the Earth is getting

hotter, disasters like hurricanes, droughts and floods are getting more frequent.

Causes of Global Warming

Global warming causes by

greenhouse effect. Increase of temperature. Due to sudden heavy rainfall. The rise of sea level. Climate & weather change.

The Greenhouse Effect

When sunlight reaches Earth's surface some is

absorbed and warms the earth and most of the rest is radiated back to the atmosphere at a longer wavelength than the sun light. The absorption of this long wave radiant energy warms the atmosphere. The greenhouse gases act like a mirror and reflect back to the Earth. The reflecting back of heat energy by the atmosphere is called the "greenhouse effect".

Effects of global warming

There are two major effects of global warming:
Increase of temperature on

the earth by about 3 to 5 C (5.4 to 9 Fahrenheit) by the year 2100.

Rise of sea levels by at

least 25 meters (82 feet) by the year 2100.

Effects of global warming Contd

There are some other effects of global warming. such as: Amounts and patterns of precipitation change. The total annual power as well as their average intensity and duration of hurricanes also increases. Intensity of other extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, heat waves, and tornadoes also changes.

Climate Change
With regard to precipitation -

whether there is an increase or decrease under climate change is a critical factor in estimating how climate change will affect Bangladesh. More than 80% of the 2,300 mm of annual precipitation that falls on Bangladesh comes during the monsoon period .

Climate Change, contd

Most of the climate models

estimate that precipitation will increase during the summer monsoon because they estimate that air over land will warm more than air over oceans in the summer. pressure system over land that happens anyway in the summer and will enhance the monsoon.

This will deepen the low

Rainfall
Now a days, erratic

rainfall becomes very common in Bangladesh A trend analysis over Dhaka city during the last 67 years (1953-2009) shows a decreasing trend of about 0.0154 mm per year

Rainfallcontd
But the trend of the last 30

years (1979-2009) is found to be increasing at a rate of 2.7 mm per year. Extreme rainfall events over the Dhaka city have increased remarkably over the last decade. The climate change will impact the extreme rainfall events of the city.

Sea Level Rise

The IPCC predicts that sea

levels will rise by about 18 cm by 2040 and by about 48 cm by 2100 in the most extreme case.
Sea level rise is stated to

be caused by thermal expansion of seawater.

Droughts and floods

Temperature and sea level

change cause the frequency of droughts and floods to increase.

More people will

experience flooding of their lands and homes and extreme drought will negatively influence crop yield.

Conclusion
Climate change influences many other environmental issues, such as desertification, biodiversity, forestation and stratospheric ozone depletion. Climate change has played a vital role in changing the climatic behavior of Bangladesh. Climate change is a problem that is affecting people and the environment. Greater energy efficiency and new technologies hold promise for reducing greenhouse gases and solving this global challenge.
