Solar water pumping

Outlines: Introduction Principle System layout Competitive analysis Various solar pumps Pump selection Advantages Dis advantages Applications

Problems:

Agricultural Irrigation in India is hampered by the Erratic Electricity supply in the rural India. Farmers get 7-8 hours of electricity a day They pump when electricity is available rather than when the crops need it. This leads to water waste and adverse impact on crops Diesel pumps have high operating costs due to increasing oil prices

Solution: A Solar Water Pump extracts water from water well and collects or sprays over the field. It uses Sun power for its operation via Solar panels. Hence it operates free of cost as against conventional Electric/Diesel Pumps. A DC electric pump is connected to the Solar panel, hence no Inverter is required. A Battery may be connected in order to operate the pump during Night/No-Sun Conditions

Surface solar pump

Pump selection: 1. Sun Conditions 2. Water Requirements 3. Total Vertical Head 4. Depth of Well (for submersible type) 5. Pipe Length 6. Water temperature 7. Water quality/storage 8. Location (Longitude/Latitude) 9. Solar Cable Length 10. Power Supply (Solar Direct/Battery) 11. cost

Advantages: Clean and efficient Electricity is not required No fuel cost Low labour and maintenance cost Highly reliable Eco friendly Long operating life ( Usually 20 to 40 years) Easy to remove, transport and store Non polluting No need of complicated wiring Simple to install

Disadvantages: Solar water pumps that do not receive enough sun and run through all of their backup power will stop if you have not hard wired them into your electric grid.

Some solar pump systems lack the power of traditional

systems.

Case studies: The Punjab Energy Development Agency, offered the pumping system to farmers at an end user contribution of just Rs.35000/-.4. The solar water pumps were a runaway success from day one. farmers were suffering from drought and frequent power cuts left the bore well inaccessible NEDA has successfully installed two such pumps in rocky terrain of Sonebhadra district.
