DC Power Requirements

DC Power Requirements
Use the following table to calculate worst-case power source requirements for the Base Station equipment:

Calculating Power Requirements for 2nd Order Diversity Configuration

Example (2nd Order Diversity)
2.x GHz Base Station with (3) 120 sectors, operating with DL-UL ratio of 50-50, with 3 AU-IDUs, 6 ODUs, a GPS Adapter and an Outdoor GPS Receiver (All 6 ODUs are powered from the PIU) PIU: 16W AVU: 24W NPU: 65W GPS Adapter: 1.2W Outdoor GPS Receiver: 6W AU-IDUs: 46W * 3 = 138W PSU Efficiency: 80% Sub-Total: 16 + [24+65+1.2+6+138/.8] = 309W

Excluding the PIU, the total power that should be supplied by PSUs is 293W. Since each PSU can support a maximum of 200W, we need at least 2 PSUs. A third PSU will support a 2+1 redundancy.

Calculating Power Requirements for 2nd Order Diversity (cont)

When calculating the power requirements associated with the ODUs, we should distinguish between the peak power consumption (maximum current) and the average power consumption (taking into account Tx/Rx ratio) that affect the requirements from a backup power source.
Peak Power Consumption: AU-ODUs: 89W * 6 = 534W (Powered directly from PIU) Peak Power Total: 534 + 309 = 843W. Average Power Consumption: The average power consumption of 6 ODUs, assuming DL-UL (Tx/Rx) ratio of 60-40, is: AU-ODUs: [89W * .60] * 6 = 320W (DL power consumption - directly from PIU) [15W * .40] * 6 = 36W (UL power consumption directly from PIU)

Average Power Total: 356 + 309 = 665W

Calculating Power Requirements 4th Order Diversity

Example (4th Order Diversity)
2.x GHz Base Station with (6) 60 sectors, operating with DL-UL ratio of 60-40, with 6 AU-IDUs, 24 ODUs, a GPS Adapter and an Outdoor GPS Receiver (4 ODUs are powered from the PIU, 20 ODUs are powered by 5 Power Feeders) PIU: 16W AVU: 24W NPU: 65W GPS Adapter: 1.2W Outdoor GPS Receiver: 6W AU-IDUs: 46W * 6 = 276W PSU Efficiency: 80% Sub-Total: 16 + [24+65+1.2+6+276/.8] = 481W Excluding the PIU, the total power that should be supplied by PSUs is 465W. Since each PSU can support a maximum of 200W, we need at least 3 PSUs. A fourth PSU will support a 3+1 redundancy.

Calculating Power Requirements 4th Order Diversity (cont)

Peak Power Consumption: AU-ODUs: 89W * 4 = 356W (Powered directly from PIU) 89W * 20 = 1780W (Powered from 5 ODU Power Feeders) Power Feeders: 2W * 20 = 40W
NOTE: If High Power PIU is used, Power Feeders not needed unless 6 sector configuration in which case, 1 power feeder is needed.

Peak Power Total: [356 + 1780 + 40]

[ 2176 ] + 481 = 2657W Average Power Consumption: Average power consumption of 24 ODUs, assuming DL-UL (Tx/Rx) ratio of 60-40: AU-ODUs: [89W * .60] * 4 = 214W (DL power consumption - directly from PIU) [15W * .40] * 4 = 24W (UL power consumption directly from PIU) [89W * .60] * 20 = 1068 (DL power consumed from ODU Power Feeders) [15W * .40] * 20 = 120W (UL power consumed from ODU Power Feeders) Power Feeders: 2W * 20 = 40W
Average Power Total: [214+24+1068+120+40]

[ 1466 ] + 481 = 1947W

Heat Dissipation & Cooling

Heat Dissipation
Use the following formula to calculate the heat dissipation for each Base Station:
[(Module 1 power consumption) + (Module 2 power consumption) + (Module N power consumption)] x 2.3884 = BTU

Example:
Base Station with 3 AU-IDUs and 1 NPU, the heat dissipation is as follows: PIU: 30W AVU: 24W PSU: 200W NPU: 65W AU-IDU: 41W * 3 = 123W Total: [30 + 24 + 200 + 65 + 123] x 2.3884 = 1056 BTU

Cooling Requirements
The BreezeMAX Chassis is intended for mounting in a cabinet or other rigid framework which is fixed to the building.

The BreezeMAX chassis is cooled by the flow of air between the elements mounted in the cabinet.
The fans and air baffles ensure that sufficient air flows between the elements. The cooling system, including the baffle and fan tray, is supplied with each chassis and is an integral part of the BreezeMAX chassis. It does not require separate installation.
