ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Mcleod gauge Advantage: Their reading does not depend on chemical nature of gas being measured and calibration is stable. Disadvantage: For measuring vacuum pressure of condensable gases this gauge is not accurate and may give erroneous reading.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Barometer Advantages: too dense , has low vapour pressure ,doesn't evaporate easily Disadvantages: Fragile, glass tube break easily and hard to get reading under hard conditions

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Manometers Advantages: Simple, accurate, and wide range fluid can be used. Disadvantages: Not portable, Need of accurate leveling and small range about 1000 kN/m

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Deadweight testers Advantages: The first thing to consider is the pressure range when using DWT. One of the advantages of a DWT is the wide range of instruments that it can cover. The DWT is an inherent percent of reading device, meaning that its performance actually improves as it is used at pressures below full scale. Disadvantages: Loading small incremental masses until the gauge reads the nominal test value is time consuming and not very ecient and The minimum pressure increment is limited by the minimum mass value in the mass set. If the test gauge is of high resolution, it may not be possible to position its needle directly on a nominal test point.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Bourdan tube Advantages: These pressure gauges give accurate results and costs low. It is simple in construction and also can be modified to give an better electrical outputs. Safe even for high pressure measurement. Accuracy is high especially at high pressure. Disadvantages: It respond slowly to changes in pressure and subjected to hysteresis. Sensitive to shocks and vibrations. Amplification is a must as the displacement of the free end of the bourdon tube is low and It cannot be used for precision measurement.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Bellows and capsule Advantages: Disadvantages:

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Diaphragm Advantages: Diaphragm Pressure Transducer cost is moderate, possess high over range characteristics, adaptable to absolute and differential pressure measurement, have good linearity and small in size. Disadvantages: Poor impact and vibration resistance. It is difficult to repair and limited to relatively low pressures.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Thermal anemometry Advantages: Fast measurements, Works in turbulent environment, Good for low speed, incompressible flow and Low noise levels. Disadvantages: Very fragile sensors, Calibration shifts due to contamination likely and Requires constant fluid properties for accurate measurements.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Doppler Anemometry Advantages: non-intrusive, very small sensing volume (~0.2mm x 1mm), independent of thermo physical prop. of the fluid, can be used in hard environments (high T, corrosive, etc) ,no need for calibration Disadvantages: LDA sensors are range-dependent; they have to be calibrated minutely and the distances where they measure has to precisely defined. This distance restriction has recently been at least partially overcome with a new sensor that is range independent

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Particle Image Velocimetry Advantages: Whole field measurement technique Non-intrusive (no probes in the flow) Can capture instantaneous flow fields Disadvantages: Very, very expensive cameras, laser Have to introduce seeding into the flow
