The ADINA Thermal program is used for the solution of heat transfer problems in solids and structures. It has powerful features such as radiation between surfaces of arbitrary geometries, element birth-death options and capabilities for highly nonlinear material behavior.
The bottle in this figure was analyzed using this radiation capability.
Heat Transfer Finite Element Analysis: Transient and steady state heat transfer analyses on a large, industrial, process, piping system carrying a heated, flowing slurry.
The mesh was complicated because the pipe was made from three layers, two metal layers and one insulation layer and support structures that passed through the insulation at several locations. The 2nd thumbnail shows a complex intersection of a smaller, feed pipe with the larger pipe.
Heat conduction was the primary heat transfer mechanism. The entire analysis was targeted toward a worst-case temperature gradient determination based on the best surmised heat flux conditions to be used later for a stress evaluation, the real concern.
The equipment was exposed to the weather in a very cold climate. Since the interior was at a hot extreme, the exterior was set to a cold extreme temperature .
The 2D assumption was valid since the piping system was long with respect to its diameter. The 2D calculation basis allowed a 3D solution of the big model that took only a couple of hours to complete in the steady state mode.

Vibrations of a powerhouse structure due to the fluidstructure interaction, obtained using ADINA. Figure depicts a schematic of the powerhouse structure, the fluid passage and the turbine. The fluid was modeled as a Navier-Stokes fluid. The turbulent behavior of the fluid was modeled using the shear stress transport (SST) model.
All of the concrete members were modeled using 3D solid elements, the steel members were modeled using beam elements, and the tow cables were modeled using truss elements. Frictional contact conditions were considered on the bottom surface of the bridge girder and on the top surfaces of the columns.
A lift shaft structure originally designed for hydraulic lift to be reused in a traction lift. As such a new set of forces and boundary conditions needed to be re-evaluated on the structure.
Structural integrity of the seating system in accordance with the deflections and vibrations criteria as specified by the National Building Code of Canada.
In order to achieve more robust machines, we had to observe the structural deficiencies when exposed to random disturbances.

However, abnormal behavior of older dams can not be attributed entirely to the drainage clogging. Foundation rock properties are also responsible.
33 blocks out of which the three blocks in the central zone are overflowing. The buttress of each block is supported at the base by a 15 m foundation pad, equal to the head width. Inside the buttresses fill material to provide the stability against sliding. The buttress itself is divided into 13.2 m columns by means of construction joints oriented parallel to the downstream face.
