According to the Industrial Dispute Act 1947 under section 2(k), Industrial Dispute has been defined as a dispute or a conflict which arises in an organization because of grievances, dissatisfaction, irregularities or differentiation between employer and employer or between employer and workmen or between workmen and workmen which is connected to the employment or non-employment or with the condition of labor of any person.

Section 2(h) of the Trade Union Act,1926 has define a trade union as: Any combination, whether temporary or permanent, formerd primarily for the purpose of regulating the relation between workman and workmen or between employers, or for imposing restrictive conditions on the conduct of any trade or business, and includes any federation of two or more trade unions.
