Bienvenue Campagne

Dear Mandy, Ive been in France for a week now. After studying France in World History and, of course, French, Im excited to actually be here. I started out my week in Paris, with a tour of the Catacombs underneath the city. As haunting as it was, it was amazing. The catacombs were created during 16 and 17th centuries, during the Black Plague. After my visit in Paris , I travelled about an hour away to Versailles, a famous palace. It was built in the 1600s when Louis XIV moved the royal family from Paris. But they had to move back nearly a century later during the French Revolution. My final stop was Campagne, a region in France known for Champagne. I couldnt go to any tastings for obvious regions, but the region was beautiful , as you can see from the front of the post card. I hope to see you soon! -Oonagh

Dear Mom, I just arrived in China after finishing my trip in France. This is another place Ive studied in school, and I am excited to be here after hearing so much about it. After a day of adjusting to jet lag, I set off to my first destination: the Great Wall of China. I learned the wall was around 13,000 miles long, so I couldnt walk all of it, but I walked a few miles and enjoyed the beautiful around the structure. After my visit to the wall, I spent the next day in The Forbidden City, which is a palace the imperial Chinese used to live in before the current government came to power. Its a world heritage site and has some of the most amazing architecture Ive ever seen. Speaking of architecture, my final stop was the Birds Nest Stadium in Beijing, which was built for the 2008 Olympics. The stadium is an absolute work of art and its a shame that its not used much anymore. Well, I just have two more trips to go! I wish you were here with me!

Dear Miriam,
! That means hello in Greek, and I am very proud of myself for learning it from the local people. I started out this trip in Santorini, a beautiful little city on a small island in the Santorini Caldera. Its full of rich culture and fascinating people and customs. After enjoying some time there, I went to the Greek mainland to visit the ruins of the Acropolis in Athens. The Acropolis is a group of famous ruins, the most notable being the Parthenon. The Acropolis was an old city, that could have been inhabited as early as the fourth millennium BC, but has not been lived in for at least 500 years. My final destination was the ruins of Delphi, a famous place that housed the Oracle Delphi, the most famous oracle in Greek history. The oracle would produce prophesies and draw many people there every year. Delphi was also a major site of worship for the sun God. Apollo. Well, only one more place to go and then Ill be back! -Oonagh

Dear Chlo,
Ive arrived at my final destination, the beautiful Maldives! As soon as I got here, I checked into my resort and headed out to do some snorkeling on some of the famous coral islands. I will never forget all of the beautiful fish and coral around me, that image will stay with me forever! After that, I spent some time on Mihri beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Maldives. I got to lay out in the sun and just enjoy life. The next day I spent my time in Kurumba village, a small, popular tourist village. I got to know the locals and got quite the farewell when I left. Ill see you soon! -Oonagh
