Session 1- Accidents: Preventable or Not?

Perfect Driving means you complete every trip without: 1. Accidents a. Preventable Accidents one in which the driver failed to do everything reasonable to prevent it. b. Non- preventable Accidents- one in which the driver did everything reasonable to prevent the accident but still, the accident happened. 2. Traffic Violations- Overspeeding, overtaking, cutting the lane of others. 3. Vehicle Abuse 4. Discourtesy 5. Excessive Schedule Delays

Session 2- Practice of Defensive Driving

Defensive Driving: Driving so as to prevent accidents despite of the incorrect actions of others and presence of adverse driving conditions. As a defensive driver, you will learn how to adjust your driving behavior to the following:
1. Unexpected actions of other drivers and pedestrians: a. Overtaking and cutting the lane of other drivers b. Over speeding c. Overtaking on curves, intersections, no passing zone, etc. d. drunken driver e. tailgating


2. To the unpredictable and ever changing factors of lights, weather, roads and traffic conditions: a. wet and slippery roads b. glare from the brilliant sunshine or headlight of other vehicle. c. winding mountain road. d. blind curve roads e. foggy weather


A Defensive Driver Must Possess the Following :
a. Good knowledge
b. Good judgment c. Good Foresight d. High level of Alertness
e. Good Skill


Standard Accident Prevention Formula :
1. See the Hazard - have a foresight of what are the possible obstructions on the road ahead which may cause accidents. 2. Understand the Defense - know the right and appropriate action to
avoid the hazard.

3. Act on Time- do the right action/ defense on time.


Four (4) Simple Steps that will help you avoid being involved in a collision with the vehicle ahead:
1. Stay alert. 2. Stay back. (Maintain a safe following distance) 3. Stay ahead of the situation 4. Start stopping sooner.


Session 4- How to Avoid a Collision with an Incoming Vehicle
1. Read the road ahead. 2. Keep Right. 3. Reduce Speed 4. Ride off the Road A collision with an incoming vehicle can occur in anyone of the three Basic Situations:
1. On a straight road
2. On a curve 3. At an intersection while one is turning left.

Coping With Curves: The best way to take a curve is to slow down before you enter it. On right hand curve, keep at the right edge of the pavement and on the left hand curve, keep on the middle of your lane. Apply power to the wheels when in curves. The relative danger of a head-on collision on a curve depends on which direction the curve takes.
On right hand curves, avoid allowing your car to drift into the other lane, since centrifugal force will tend to pull it to the left. On left hand curves, be alert to the other vehicles tendency to drift into your lane, since centrifugal force will tend to pull him to the left.

Session 5- How to Avoid an Intersection Collision When you approach an intersection, take the following steps to avoid driving mistakes: Yours and the other drivers.: 1. Know your route and plan ahead. 2. Show your intention by position and signal. 3. Slow down for intersections and expect the unexpected. 4. Go with care.

Session 6 The Art of Passing and Being Passed Things to be considered to prevent an accident when other cars pass you: Help the other driver pass. Check incoming traffic; Slow down if the passing car will need more room to get back in line in front of you.
Things to be considered when passing other cars: Before you change lanes, check your rearview mirror and glance back to make sure your blind spot is clear. Use your turn signals. Move over only when the lane is clear.
Get into the proper lane for a turn early. When turning right, stay close to the curve. Use your turn signals early.

Session 7- Mystery Crash A mystery crash is a one car accident. It is the one that involved a single vehicle in a traffic mishap. Causes of a Mystery Crash: 1. Road 2. Weather 3. Vehicle 4. You and How you drive 5. You and How you feel 6. Another driver 7. Drinking and driving

Session 8- How to Avoid Other Types of Collisions
1. Collision with a pedestrian 2. Collision with fixed objects 3. Collision with animals
4. Collision with a train

5. Collision with a bicycle 6. Collision with a motorcycle
