The leader as a teacher

If one is leading, teaching, dealing with young people or engaged in any other activity that involves influencing, directing, guiding, helping, or nurturing, the whole tone of the relationship is conditioned by ones faith in human possibilities. That is the generative element, the source of the current that gives life to the relationship.(John Gardner)

How to become a leader

I have those precious things which I hold fast and prize. The first is gentleness; the second is frugality; the third is humility, which keeps me from putting myself before others. Be gentle and you can be bold; be frugal and you can be liberal; avoid putting yourself before others and YOU CAN BECOME A LEADER. (Lao-Tzu)

When will leadership die?(Jeremie Kubicek)

Some leaders dont walk the walk
Some leaders are engaged in self-preservation Some leaders couldnt adapt to change

Some leaders are greedy, insecure, selfish & corrupt

It is INFLUENCE that makes true leadership come to life.

He that thinketh he leadeth... and hath no one following him... only taketh a walk. (Dr. John Maxwell)
Leadership is not just about the leader but about the opportunity to influence others. (Collin Sewell as told by Jeremie Kubicek)

Emerging leadership principle now is not based on getting all you can but on giving all you can! To be an effective, respected and positive force for change, todays leaders must overcome our cultural tendencies toward narcissism and self-centeredness.

The Need for higher capacity

The focus should not be solely on the processes of leadership but should focus more on inspiring and influencing people to perform at their highest levels while serving a higher purpose.

Leadership ability determines the ultimate level of your effectiveness. The more you grow and expand your leadership skills, the more opportunities you will have to use your gifts and the more influence you will have.

Now ask yourself....

How well do you know yourself?
What do you want? What do you not want? What do you need right now? What are you afraid of losing?

Great leaders are self-aware. Great leaders can self- manage. Great leaders know those they lead.
TO LEAD WITH CONFIDENCE AND HUMILITY KNOW YOURSELF FIRST!

Good leadership is about building mutually beneficial relationships. Leadership growth is comparable to the maturation process of human beings. We must always remember that good leadership is a vehicle for people to influence for others best.

The wall of self-preservation

Leaders need to understand that the

protective mode is not a productive mode. Leaders who focus on self-preservation risk stagnation. Defensive leadership leads to mediocrity.

The Reality of Self-preservation

Self-preservation natural instinct to watch over the things we own, covet, or desire.
We protect what we dearly love.

It becomes detrimental when: You start building a wall around yourself You relentlessly hang on to what youve got, youll never have a hand free to reach for something better.

The protection Wall

Walls exist within us to protect certain

aspects of our interior lives. It may protect us even as it offends others. The more you guard your status, your reputation, your status quo, the less influence you have on others. Less influence = smaller impact

Influence is based on trust. It is nearly impossible to trust someone who thinks first and foremost about himself.
Fear, worry, envy, insecurity, and unforgiveness: if these arent managed properly, they will be the strong bricks to our wall.

The Self-preservation Balance

The instinct to survive and the challenge of

evolving times The fear of losing something valuable The fear of failing in front of others The instincts to preserve self without biting into self-destruction.

Threads of self-preservation
The thread of DNA and personality
The thread of upbringing The thread of school or work

experience The thread of relationship The thread of faith

Thread of DNA and personality

Shapes our way of thinking and communicating, which affects our preservation tendencies.

The thread of upbringing

Shapes our views of the future.
Often we adopt the same approach practiced by our

parents.

The thread of school or work experience

May cause you to learn in one direction or another.

You may find yourself trying to avoid a particular

school or work situation that hampered your career or growth in the past, without realizing that the circumstances are different in this case.

The thread of relationship

Affects the way we deal with everyone around us.
Childhood abuse often leaves the victim fearful of

intimacy and unwilling to trust others.

The thread of faith

Typically leads to a more balanced view of self-

preservation, but if someones faith is diminished by a betrayal or a tragedy, a life can unravel quickly.

Discovering your walls

Can you identify the walls of self-

preservation that youve constructed? Do you see how these walls may be hindering, not helping you?

Real leadership is effective and efficient leadership

True influence is possible when you hold true to your principles and values and when you use your God-given gifts for the benefit of those around you.
