SYSTEMS-

Refers to components that work together to achieve a common goal. A system consists of four main elements A. INPUT- Initial material Taken in which may data, raw materials, etc B. PROCESS- Method applied to convert an input into an end product C. OUTPUT- End products of the processes D. ENVIRONMENT- May be internal- The immediate space within which the system operates or external- the space outside the immediate area of operation of the system.

UPWARD COMMUNICATION

FLOWS FROM LOWER TO UPPER . THIS INVOLVE WORK RELATED PROBLEMS, TASK COMPLETION

LATERAL COMMUNICATION

THIS IS WHEN INFORMATION FLOWS BETWEEN PEERS WHO ARE EQUAL OR ON THE SAME LEVEL

CHP 3 INFORMATION /DATA PROCESSING

STAGES OF DATA PROCESSING a) ORIGINATION: HOURS WORKED BY EMPLOYEES RECORDED ON A TIME SHEET AND SEND TO PAY OFFICE b) PREPARATION: DATA CHECKED AND CONFIRMED c) INPUT: THE TIME SHEETS COLLATED AND USED AS INPUT FOR PAY PROCESSING d) OUTPUT: THE PAYROLL, PAYSLIPS ARE PRODUCED

TYPES OF DATA PROCESSING METHODS

a) MANUAL DATA PROCESSING
a) ELECTRO-MECHANICAL DATA PROCESSING a) ELECTRONIC DATA PROCESSING

A. MANUAL DATA PROCESSING

Manual Data processing techniques are used to some degree in every organization and they are still predominant methods of processing data in smaller organizations. A clerical staff may finish by hand all the data processing steps via the use of pens, pencil, journals, worksheets, folders etc. Devices such as adding machines, document control registers provides means of eliminating tedious work. Example of mechanical and electronic equipment used today are typewriter, calculating machines and cash registers

Computer operations are usually classified under 3 main headings: Input, Processing and Output A. Input: Some data are entered into the system directly while other are read directly into the computer by means of the OPTICAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION equipment. B. Processing: Thus, all the processing steps are performed within the system in recognition with a series of instructions called a PROGRAM which is also store in the computer.
