Lesson 1: Brush, Pencil and Paint Bucket Tool


Photoshop CS3 has the capabilities to let you create your

own images by drawing or creating shapes from the options in the Tools palette. You can also edit pictures to create a more sophisticated and artistic image for your photo album. In this module, we will show you how to create shapes and make your own drawing.

The Brush Tool


You can see the Brush tool at the Tools palette. This tool

lets you create color in your image or raw image. There are three different tools in Brush tool flyout menu: Brush Tool Pencil Tool Color Replacement Tool

The Brush Tool


You can drag the tool to the canvas to create a color. You

can select other kinds of brush tool just by selecting from the drop down menu in the Options Bar. There are three different kinds of brush tool

The Pencil Tool


The Pencil Tool gives you color strokes just like the

Brush tool but the lines are thinner. This is ideal for small or thin application of color to your image.

The Paint Bucket Tool


The Paint Bucket Tool is good for replacing colors or by

changing the background of your image. This tool fills the areas of your image.

Lesson 2: Creating Shapes


You can create shapes in Photoshop just by selecting the

Shapes Tool on the Toolbox. Selecting the tool will show a drop down menu of different kinds of shapes for you to select depending on what shape you like to form.

Selecting one of these will make it the default button in

the Shapes button.

Lesson 3: Applying Gradient


Gradient is a color that blends from one color to another.

You can apply this to your image to form an effect or style. Once the tool is activated, it gives you a line. This line defines the transition and direction of the gradient. A long line produces gradual transition.

Lesson 4: History Brush Tool


The History Brush Tool is a paint tool that can view your

previous state of image from the History palette into the current image. History Brush Tool will brush the area to the change that was made before. To select this tool, go to the Toolbox and select the History Brush icon.

Lesson 5: Selecting Color for the Brush Tool


There are two ways to select a color for your Brush Tool: From the Tools Palette the first box is for the color of your tool (foreground), while the second box behind it is the backgrounds color. From the Color or Swatches Palette the Color or Swatches palette from the right side of your screen gives some color options for your foreground color.
