Greece is located on the Balkan peninsula. Today, its a fairly poor country. In ancient times, everyone looked up to the Greeks as being the best at thinking, fighting, education and making money.

In ancient times, the Greeks called their country Hellas. They called themselves Hellenes. Greece is half the size of New York state. It has a warm, sunny (Mediterranean) climate

Greece is chopped up. Its made up of Islands and peninsulas 2 of the biggest islands are Crete and Rhodes There is no spot in Greece that is further than 50 miles from the sea. 2/3 of Greece is mountains

These are the reasons why Greece developed into City-states rather than as a unified country.

Greece. Greatest Greek civilization dating from 500 B.C.
