SILICON UNILATERAL SWITCH

Four-layer device similar to SCR Unilateral means it operates in one direction Similar operation with SCR SUS turns on for a fixed anode gate voltage SUS breakdown Voltage is about 6-10 V while SCR is 50V and above

SILICON UNILATERAL SWITCH

SILICON BILATERAL SWITCH

It is useful in triggering TRIACs Similar to DIAC Conducts current in both ways Has negative resistance Advantage over DIAC because of lower breakover voltage More pronounce negative resistance region than DIAC Operates similar to a TRIAC

GATE TURNOFF THYRISTOR

Turn on is similar to that of an SCR Unlike SCR, GTO can be turned off through the gate terminal fast turnoff time and high current turn off capability GTO is turned on only with a positive gate voltage. It is then turned of with a negative gate voltage
