Case Study: Metro Manila University

Central Problem
How should the P50, 000 cash balance that Metro Manila University has be used? Be put in a savings account or in Treasury Bills that yeild more than the savings?

OBJECTIVES
To have enough money for the annual expenditures of the different departments To have additional means as source of income for the university

Alternative Courses of Action

Invest the P50 million cash in full in treasury Bills Discuss with the department heads to specify the average spendings of each from the past expenditures so that the university can assign a certain amount for their spendings. A budget for each of them. Invest part of the remaining cash into treasury Bill Make use of the remaining cash to build profit generating businesses that the university can take advantage of. Do not invest the P50, 000 million cash in treasury Bill and continue with what the university used to do. Conduct a thorough research of the Cashier if there are any conspiracies that he has been doing because of his strong resistance to the opinion.
Maybe that he does not agree because he is the sole responsible of the cash of the whole university and that any transaction may be created as fraud by him.

We thought the cashier is the superior of all the section under what if the Chief accountant also be a superior to them so that fraud or whatever it may be may be prevented. Lets say he is ensuring a smooth flow of cash transactions and that fact gives us the idea also he can manipulate whatever transactions occur like for example issuing His activities are to strenous and lacks the securities discussed by the Sarbanes Oxley Act he has too many persons to supervise.
