Objectives
To spread awareness amongst students about the rising ill effects of alcoholism To sensitize students for developing empathy & encourage them to take steps for promotion of healthy & happy living To provide mental & social support to care-givers, families of severely alcoholic dependent people. To enable a youthful unified energy that challenges the alcohol dependent mindsets of people & create strong awareness towards healthy styles of living

Facts related to Alcoholism


Alcohol is a Depressant drug responsible for slowing down the activity of the brain Takes the liver about one hour to break down one drink of alcohol 10-15% alcohol users develop alcohol dependence Has irreversible effect on health, work life, social and family relationships

62.5 million Alcohol users are estimated in India Per capita consumption of alcohol increased by 106.7% over the 15 year period from 1970-1996 Third largest market for alcoholic beverages in India, attracts the attention of multi national liquor companies all over the place Taxes generated from alcohol production & sale is the major source of revenue i.e. estimated to be Rs 25, 000 crores.

Methodology for SAP conduction


Nukkad Natak (Street Play)
Maximum number of students should be 10 -12. The students would design a script/play with respect to the topic. With the prior permission of higher authorities, the street play would be enacted in the campus. The maximum duration of the play should be 15 minutes and requires participation from all the members of the group. (Final approval of Director, AIPS is essential)

Documentary/ Movie making


Maximum number of students should be eight. Documentaries or short films on the SAP topic should include the following things: 1. Orientation to the topic. 2. Theme based or situation specific incidents. 3. Offering objectified learnings at the end. Group should reflect and share their experiences with the class. Distribution of informative pamphlets to the class is mandatory (Final approval of Director, AIPS is essential)

Rehabilitation centre/ NGO Visit


Maximum number of students should be four. The students are required to visit the rehabilitation centers/ NGOs working for the alcoholic people & their care givers to discuss their life experiences, their struggles, their achievements & their growth. It could also be a case study for a single person studying their life and capturing it in the video/pictures for sensitizing masses. The videos or reports should be informative, taking through the life journey, reflective and further sensitive and empathetically taken. (Final approval of Director, AIPS is essential)

Survey/ Questionnaires
Maximum number of students should be five. Survey should be conducted on a minimum of fifty people. Questionnaires could be both structured and unstructured on the respective SAP topic. A detailed analysis should be presented in the form of a power point presentation. Distribution of informational pamphlets to the participants of the survey is mandatory. Pls Note No Survey/ questionnaire/ pamphlets should be conducted by the respective Behavioral Science faculty without taking the final approval of Director, AIPS

Important SAP conduction points


All BS faculty are required to conduct SAP in the class On SAP day across AUUP, the best SAP presentation will be selected & displayed to sensitize students across AUUP The tentative date for conduction of SAP day is 28/09/2012 All faculty are required to inform students about SAP topic & conduct SAP in BS classes before 2nd week of September. All BS faculty are required to compile the best presentations as nominations for SAP day All BS faculty are required to submit their best SAP projects to the faculty Incharge latest by 20/09/2012
