Professor N.R Krishnaswamy M.D.S., M.ORTH.RCS(ED), DIP.NB (Diplomate Of The
Indian Board Of Orthodontics)
Professor Krishnaswamy is the Head of the Dept. of Orthodontics and the Vice-Principal of Ragas Dental College & Hospital, Chennai, India. After graduating from the Madras Dental College, he obtained his Masters in Orthodontics from College of Dental Surgery, Manipal. He is a fellow of the Royal college of Surgeons of Edinburgh and a Diplomate of the Indian Board of Orthodontics and The National Board of Medical Sciences. Professor Krishnaswamy was the recipient of the International Scientific exchange fund of the Japan Dental Association which led to clinical training at Tsurumi University, Yokohama, Japan in 1990. Professor Krishnaswamy has several award winning presentations to his credit and has been the winner of the best clinical paper award of the IOS several times. He is a world renowned speaker and has delivered several keynote addresses at international orthodontic conferences. He has delivered lectures and conducted workshops for Orthodontists in several countries in South East Asia. He was invited to deliver a lecture at the 66th Annual Conference of the Japanese Orthodontic Society. He has published extensively and has been a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the Indian Orthodontic Society for more than a decade. Recently he was invited to deliver a lecture at the World Federation of Orthodontics Conference in Sydney in February 2010. Professor Krishnaswamy has also served as the President of the Indian Orthodontic Society and the Chairman of the Indian Board of Orthodontics.

Professor Birte Melsen DDS, DR. ODONT.


Professor Melsen received her dental degree in 1964 and became certified orthodontists in 1971. In 1974, Professor Melsen obtained her odontological doctorate and became professor and Head of Dept. of Orthodontics, School of Dentistry, Aarhus University, Denmark. In 2000, she received the Knighthood of Dannebrog (1st Degree). She also runs a private practice in Lubeck, Germany specialising in Adult Orthodontics. Professor Melsen has authored more than 350 publications in the field of growth and development studied on human autopsy material, bone biology and clinical studies by means of the implant method. She is an honorary member of many orthodontic societies and has been awarded numerous awards & honorary degrees internationally. Her special interest is in the field of skeletal anchorage, virtual imaging, adult orthodontics and stem cells. Professor Melsen is an editor for many editorial boards including Current Controversies in Orthodontics, Journal of Clinical Orthodontics etc. She is also a referee for many journals including the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, The Angle Orthodontist & the European Journal of Orthodontics etcDespite her busy schedule, Professor Melsen has held many honorary offices such as President of the Scandinavian Orthodontic Society, Vice-President of the International Symposium on Comprehensive Management of Craniofacial Anomalies, VicePresident of the Osteoporosis Research Foundation and President of the European Orthodontic Society amongst others. Professor Melsen actively lectures internationally and in her spare time engages in project of social responsibility in South America where she fundraisers for the betterment of street children.

Professor Paul M Thomas, DMD, MS, FDSRCS [Edin]


Professor Thomas received his pre-doctoral education at the University of Kentucky and his oral and maxillofacial surgery training at the Albert B. Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. After eight years of surgery practice he returned to graduate school, was awarded an NIH postdoctoral fellowship and completed an orthodontic residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Remaining at the university as a full-time faculty member, Professor Thomas had appointments in both the surgery and orthodontic departments. He co-directed the dentofacial program and was active in ongoing orthognathic surgery research. In 2003, Dr. Thomas moved to the United Kingdom as Senior Research Fellow at the Eastman Dental Institute for Oral Health Care Sciences in London, England. Currently, Professor Thomas is an Honorary Consultant at the Eastman Dental Institute for Oral Health Care Sciences and is an Adjunct Professor of Orthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has conducted and supervised research on orthognathic stability, digital imaging applications in orthodontics and the immediate loading of implantable devices for orthodontic and orthopedic anchorage. During his professional career, he has contributed 11 book chapters, 18 refereed papers, 1 monograph and over 200 invited lectures nationally and internationally. He advocates a common sense nuts and bolts approach to treatment which has evolved over 40 years of providing integrated care for patients with complex problems.
