Basic design method

A new reconfiguration design technique is proposed by using slot configuration in the microstrip rectangular and circular patch antennas with two diodes connected inside the slot with on and off state working strategy. The frequency reconfiguration can be obtained by switching between the diodes.

The frequency can be varied in three different steps. Both two diodes(D1 OFF , D2 OFF) are in off state One diode D1 is in ON and another diode D2 is in OFF state

Both two diodes(D1 ON , D2 ON) are in ON state

ADVANTAGES OF PATCH ANTENNA

Light weight and low volume. Low profile planar configuration which can be easily

made
conformal to host surface. Low fabrication cost, hence can be manufactured in large quantities.

Supports both, linear as well as circular polarization.

Can be easily integrated with microwave integrated circuits (MICs).

DISADVANTAGES OF PATCH ANTENNA

Narrow bandwidth Low efficiency

Low Gain
Extraneous radiation from feeds and junctions Poor end fire radiator except tapered slot antennas Low power handling capacity. Surface wave excitation

CONCLUSIONS
In this seminar the first aspect is the design of reconfigurable antennas. These antennas are reviewed,

classified and grouped. They are categorized into

different groups based on their reconfiguration techniques and they are classified based on their reconfigurability properties. Reconfigurable antenna designs, their

reconfiguration techniques and their applications are reviewed. And a implementation is presented and results are compared.
