THE IDENTITY OF WOMEN IN THE ONE MAGAZINE.

A STUDY ON ANGLICISMS IN THE TITLES

1. Introduction
The beginning of the XXIst century - a great developement of some fields of activity (such as informatics, economics, finances, media, public relations) the formation of new words in the English language and their introduction and use as such in the vocabulary of other languages as well.

The Romanian language - a process of enrichment of its vocabulary with English words as a consequence of the permanent changes in society that impose the use of new words to designate economic, social, political or cultural realities.

2. The identity of women in lifestyle magazines


The media a great influence on peoples lives in the XXIst century individuals self identity starts to be shaped following certain criteria imposed by magazines and/or television.

Womens magazines: - play an important part in the lives of women of all ages - create a mythic community in which women share the same opinions and invite individual readers to recognise themselves and their opinions as part of a gendered world (Jonathan Bignell: Media semiotics: an introduction)

Two types of women magazines (depending on their frequency and on the articles debated): - weekly magazines

- monthly magazines

4. Anglicisms and the Romanian written media


anglicism = an English word that is used
in another language (Macmillan English Dictionary) = a word, idiom, or feature of the English language occurring in or borrowed by another language. (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Anglicis ms)

= a linguistic unity of English origin that has retained its pronunciation and orthography (Avram, Mioara, Anglicisme n limba

romn actual) = a recent loan from British and

American English which is partially or not at all adapted in the Romanian language (StoichioiuIchim, Adriana, Vocabularul limbii romne actuale. Dinamic, influene, creativitate)

The main fields in the media in which the anglicisms appear: economy (discount, management, brand, leasing, marketing, etc.) informatics (site, online, software, etc.) technology (bluetooth, dvd, laptop, etc.) music (show, hit, live, etc.)

sport (jogging, fitness, etc.) food (fast-food, chips, ketchup, etc.)


fashion (design, blush, print, etc.)
