In the past..
In many Germans were fleeing their homeland to find an easier life due to extremely violent conditions. The country was repeatedly being attacked by armies of various nationalities. Entire villages were often burnt down and their inhabitants killed. In , modernization and population growth forced many Germans from their respective family businesses. Modernization made immigrating more convenient and faster with inventions such as the steam boat and steam train.

In the past..
The economic boom of the post-war era, the western German economic miracle Resulted in an increased need for labour. Building of Berlin Wall stopped due to shortage of workers. Federal Republic of Germany started recruiting foreign workers. (1955) Recruitment stopped but there was already 4 million foreign nationals living in Western Germany. In the early of 1950s, there was an influx of asylum seekers. In the 1980s, the number of asylum applications had been very fluctuating and reached its absolute peak with 438 000 in 1992. (Reason due to the crisis in the former eastern bloc which resulted in a considerable change of the applications countries of origin who mainly used to come from Third World countries. )

language), as the Germans melted into a common American nationality. By 1910 German Americans had created their own distinctive, vibrant, prosperous German-language communities, called "Germania". transmission of cultural values, German Americans strove to maintain their own German-language schools.

a large group of individuals with technical skills or knowledge. Emigrants usually take with them the fraction of value of their training sponsored by the government or other organizations.
