2. In case of irregular buildings

3. In case of buildings of extreme torsional irregularity or Vertical Stiffness/Mass/Geometric Irregularity

Selection of method (7.8.1, IS:1893(Part 1)-2002) :

When the structure is irregular as per Table 4, IS:1893(Part 1)-2002, the method of dynamic analysis with masses lumped at floor levels, as per 7.8.4.5, IS:1893(Part 1)-2002, cannot be done, rendering computer modelling the only option.

When dynamic analysis is done, a static analysis is also to be done and base shears compared (7.8.2,
IS:1893(Part 1)-2002) If

Modification of Ah (6.4.4, IS:1893(Part 1)-2002) :

For underground structures and foundations of depth 30 m and below, Ah shall be taken as Ahcalculated. For depth between ground and 30 m, Ah shall be interpolated between Ahcalculated and Ahcalculated (This clause can be used only to reduce the seismic inertia force due to mass of foundation under the ground and not for the calculation of inertia force of the superstructure) (Comment to the draft code).

Soft Stories (7.10, IS:1893(Part 1)-2002) :

A soft storey is one in which the lateral stiffness is less than 70 percent of that in the storey above or less than 80 percent of the average lateral stiffness of the three storeys above (4.20, IS:1893(Part 1)-2002)

Soft Stories (7.10, IS:1893(Part 1)-2002) :

In case of buildings with soft stories,

Dynamic analysis of building be carried out including the strength and stiffness effects of infills, and the members designed accordingly (7.10.2, IS:1893(Part 1)-2002) Masonry infills are modelled by equivalent diagonal struts (7.10.2, IS:1893(Part 1)- Proposed Draft)

Non-Linear Pushover Analysis has to be performed (7.11.1.1 , IS:1893(Part 1)-Proposed Draft)

Alternatively,
Columns and beams of the soft storey be designed for 2.5 times forces obtained by analysis Shear walls of the soft storey be designed for 1.5 times forces obtained by analysis (7.10.3, IS:1893(Part 1)-2002)

Separation Between Adjacent Units (7.11.3, IS:1893(Part 1)-2002) :

To avoid damaging contact when the two units deflect towards each other Separation equal to R/2 times the sum of the calculated storey displacements as per 7.11.1, IS:1893(Part 1)-2002 (ie., with partial load factor of 1.0) of each of them. Separation equal to R times the sum of the calculated storey displacements, when floor levels of the adjacent units or buildings are not at the same elevation levels.
