Topology
Slave devices are not powered from the Profibus (2-wire) but need a power supply. Terminators must be installed at each end of the bus and have separate power (device).

Topology
Profibus DP segments The minimum segment length must be three feet (1 meter). The number of devices possible on a Profibus DP segment will vary depending on the number of devices (M, S, R) used with a maximum of 32 physical devices.

When the distance exceeds 200 m we must use repeaters with a maximum of nine (9 depending on vendor / type) in main trunk (at 1.5 Mbits/s)
Repeaters count as two physical devices on the segments but not as slave devices.
