WHAT IS SAFETY?
The condition of being SAFE from UNDERGOING or CAUSING HURT, INJURY or LOSS. A DEVICE designed to PREVENT HAZARDOUS operations.
A solid safety program can help protect a companys reputation. In our case, school reputation.
the practice of safety also brings financial benefits to the table. A safe work/school environment impacts a projects bottom line both directly and indirectly.
There are 3 key reasons why safety is important: MORALITY LEGALITY/ IMAGE FINANCIAL
What is risk?
A possibility of LOSS or INJURY. Someone or something that creates or suggests HAZARD. The combination of the likelihood of a hazardous event occurring and the consequence of the event.
What is hazard?
Anything that has the POTENTIAL to cause harm. A SOURCE of danger.
HAZARDOUS EVENT- takes place when someone or something interacts with the hazard.
To summarize:
Risks = likelihood x consequence Hazards- any potential source of harm Hazardous event- interaction to the hazard Risk Assessment- managing risks so that any possible harm will not occur.
Housekeeping Lighting Manual handling Noise Slips and Trips Stress Temperature Vehicles and Transport Safety
Accident- an undesired event that results in injury/ property damage Incident- an event or condition that does not cause harm but has the potential to do so.
To clearly identify the cause of incident or accident to stop it from happening again.
Remember:
Incidents that dont result in any loss, damage or injury, also need to be reported. Because this could cause injury or loss next time it happens.
As soon as possible after the accident, we need to tell the supervisor. The supervisor will then start the reporting process. In most organizations, the reporting process depends on the severity of the injury or damage. In case of severe injury or damage the reporting process will be carried out to the senior management for immediate and appropriate action.
