Methods of obtaining hydrogen by extracting hydrogen molecules from compounds

Electrolysis- splitting the molecules of a compound into its basic elements Biomass gratification- heating agricultural wastes and wood chips to the point where they transform into hydrogen and various gases. Stream reforming- steam heating systems used to separate the hydrogen molecules from the compound methane
Usually used for industrial proposes

Disadvantages of using hydrogen energy:

Hydrogen production is very energyintensive in order to separate if from a water molecule Negative net energy Efficient method to store hydrogen has not yet been developed Excessive H2 leaks may deplete ozone in the atmosphere Little infrastructure exists for transport, storage, and retrieval of hydrogen.

Increase dependence on hydrogen because:

It is renewable in contrast to fossil fuels Emissions from hydrogen combustion are water and heat which dont impact the environment negatively. Technologies are being developed to further the use of hydrogen so that it can be produced, stored, and used efficiently It will decrease our dependence on foreign oils and help provide a clean, efficient renewable resource for the future.
