Aims
Use seafood as a context for learning to teach:

Where seafood comes from


How it gets to our plates Why it is good to eat as part of a healthy diet

How does it work?


4 regional coordinators work with school clusters (high school and associated primaries). Funds cover 20 per year. Anchor workshop events kick start projects Come dine with me Fish identification with sea to plate discussion Fish filleting/cookery demonstration

Classes work on own projects, then pupils present outcomes to rest of school to extend message reach

What we offer
A team to run anchor workshops Industry participation and ongoing partnerships processors, fishermen, shellfish farmers, retailers, fishmongers, chefs Funding for transport to workshops Funding for outbound projects CPD sessions for teachers

Issues?
Teachers worried by shellfish toxins and potential allergies BUT We insist that parents give permission for tasting All staff are trained to cope in an emergency 000s of tasting with NO ISSUES!

Year 1 Achievements
Website with lots of useful resources 12,000 pupils direct involvement An additional 40,000 + pupils learnt about the project Industry involvement - 24,000 in-kind time and product Ongoing involvement of industry with schools Community workshops at each event 120 teachers undertook CPD sessions Bespoke PR programme Fantastic feedback from teachers, pupils and parents!
