HEIJUNKA DEFINITON
HEI: Plane JUN: Level KA: Performance Leveling customer demand through the volume of production in a uniform period of time

GENERAL OBJETIVE
Load balance production lines, having an order of manufacture of the products.

SPECIFIC OBJETIVES

Remove Mudas by

standardization of work. Reduce inventories.

HEIJUNKA CHARACTERISTICS
It can be used in conjunction with other tools of Lean

Manufacturing. Brings stability in the manufacturing process Product Leveling Production Leveling

HEIJUNKA BOX
Also called leveling box, is a physical tool used to level the volume and variety of production for a certain period of time (pitch) using kanban cards.

Important Concepts
Takt time It refers to the rate of production of the company based on customer demand.

Pitch: Refers to the number of pieces per unit time based on takt time

Example
Products Daily Requirement Quantity Per Pack # of kanbans A01 300 15 20 B02 240 15 16 C03 180 15 12 D04 60 15 4 TOTAL 780 60 52

Production time:

8hrs x 60 min = 480 min 2 breakfast 15 min= -30 min Rest 10 min= -10 min --------------440 min

440 min x 60 x2 = 52,800 seconds

8

Takt time= 52.800 seconds / 780 units = 67.6 seconds Pitch= 67.6 sec. x 15 units = 1,014 seconds or 16.9 min.

So: The leveling of the production is to be achieved as follows:
