COMMENTS
Good idea Managers in core sectors need this course It is about scheduling, forecasting, optimising. Since MBA is open to all, IEM should be open to all. It concerns about managing other kind of industries also, apart from mechanical industries
COMMENTS..
Vague idea Somebody told NITIE has this branch only. Study of Operation Research Doing MBA is easier than IEM
COMMENTS..
Wrong Idea MBA is globally recognized IEM for optimizing, MBA for empirical study There is no scope for IEM, simply a program to accommodate unemployed engineers.
branch you will go with? What is the difference between IEM & MBA? Is it a core Mechanical Engineering branch? Should it accommodate students from all engineering background? What exactly this branch is all about?
If tomorrow you plan to go for PhD., then which branch you will go with?

Good Idea
IEM is for technical world which an MBA cant
understand We are not managing the company as a whole. We are managing the production activities, basically.
INFERENCE
Lack of awareness among students.
Awareness problem within our branch also. Motivation
Total number of engineers employed in 2006 = 1.5 million (apprx) Of these, 201,000 were industrial engineers (13.3%) ,the third most popular engineering specialty. The average starting salaries being $55,067 with a bachelor's degree, $64,759 with a master's degree, and $77,364 with a doctorate degree. This places industrial engineering at 7th of 15 among engineering bachelors degrees, 3rd of 10 among masters degrees, and 2nd of 7 among doctorate degrees in average annual salary. Answer
MBA approach: He will calculate the expected Net Present Value of each project, order them from highest to lowest, and start allocating from top to bottom. IEM approach: He will develop a stochastic optimization problem with a objective function to maximize profit (risk & reward as variables).
CONCLUSION
IEM is not for only Mechanical Engineers. IEM is globally accepted, comes within top 10 most sought
branches & top 10 highest paid job. Currently facing very basic but very severe problems
Lack of awareness
Misconceptions Lack of motivation Placement
SUGGESTIONS
For inter purpose A society for Industrial Engineers
Orientation program for newly admitted batch Annual gathering of IE engineers from different institutes in Kerala Gathering all IE students under one roof. Experience sharing by alumni & corporate executives
