This presentation discusses power line communication (PLC), which uses electrical power lines to transmit data signals. PLC can reduce costs compared to building new telecommunication networks. Electrical networks have three levels - high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage. PLC transmits data signals through power lines, but faces challenges like bandwidth limitations, signal interference, impedance mismatches, and time-varying signal-to-noise ratios. Broadband PLC systems aim to overcome these challenges and realize high-speed data transmission over power lines to enable applications like in-home networks and access to the core telecommunication network. Issues specific to PLC transmission channels and realizing broadband capabilities are also discussed.
