WHAT IS MYTH?

Myth means many things. To some it means little more than "lie." To others it has no particular truth value, but refers to a type of story

MEANING OF MYTH

Myth comes from the Greek word mythos. Which means word and speech, tale or story, rumor or saying etc

DEFINITION

A traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or explaining some natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events

There is no definite method of categorized myths. Myth can be categorized in many types, from old to new, from Greek to Roman, from supernatural to ordinary

EUHEMERISM

This theory claims that myths are distorted accounts of real historical events. According to this theory, storytellers repeatedly elaborated upon historical accounts until the figures in those accounts gained the status of gods.

ALLEGORY

According to one theory, myths began as allegories for natural phenomena like Apollo represents fire, Poseidon represents water, and so on. According to another theory, myths began as allegories for philosophical or spiritual concepts like Athena represents wise judgment, Aphrodite represents desire, etc.

PERSONIFICATION

Some thinkers believe that myths resulted from the personification of inanimate objects and forces. According to these thinkers, the ancients worshipped natural phenomena such as fire and air, gradually coming to describe them as gods

THE MYTH-RITUAL THEORY

According to the myth-ritual theory, the existence of myth is tied to ritual. In its most extreme form, this theory claims that myths arose to explain rituals

In modern society, myth is often regarded as historical or obsolete and because of globalization the widespread myths is increased dramatically

The fundamental idea is that myth is not simply a collection of stories permanently fixed to a particular time and place in history, but an ongoing social practice within every society and in this modern society we find myths growing in from of urban legends

MYTH VS. SCIENCE

There are many myths which are related to study of science. Some stories found in mythology have scientific brothers in from of theories which are similar to each other but one is called totally fiction and other has value because of science

CREATION MYTH (CHAOS)

The world was originally Chaos which was in a formless, shapeless state. Then suddenly Order appeared and from conflict between Chaos and Order everything else came into existence.

BIG BANG THEORY

According to the Big Bang theory, the Universe was once in an extremely hot and dense state which for some reason started to expand rapidly. This rapid expansion caused the young Universe to cool and resulted in its present continuously expanding state.

SIMILARITIES OF BIG BANG AND CHAOS

Both of them had a state where there was nothing both of them had a sudden change in there states and that change was the cause of creation of earth
