GLOBALE ENERGY SCENARIO AND FUTURE PROJECTIONS

Primary energy consumption in MTOE

INDIAS PER CAPITA ENERGY CONSUPTION IS 585 KGOE IN 2009 EXPECTED TO BE MORE THAN DOUBLE BY 2032 AND BECOME 1124 KGOE WHICH IS STILL LESS THAN WORLD AVERGE PER CAPITA ENERGY CONSUPTION 1797 KGOE

ENERGY SECURITY INDIA PERSPECTIVE

India is fourth largest primary energy consumer India growth rate of 8% Coal is major source of energy account 52% of total energy Next major source is oil which accounts about 30% Natural Gas accounts for 10% of energy supplies Nuclear, Hydro, Renewable supply demand of remaining 10%
Indias energy mix

OIL AND COAL SCENARIO

India produces 25% of its oil requirement more than 75% of oil requirement is imported ONGC produces 75% of total oil production
Oil production and import

Coal supplies 50% of total energy and 70% of the Electricity production
Historical coal consumption

NATURAL GAS AND SHALE GAS

India has about 290 trillion cubic feet of shale gas in place About 63 tcf estimated to be recoverable
Natural gas import accounts 21% of total its demand In 2030 Natural gas will provide 20% of India's total energy consumption
Natural gas consumption and production

CLEAN ENERGY AND FUTURE

CONCLUSIONS
Reduce dependency on any single fuel Move from hydrocarbon energy sources towards the renewable energy sources Provide the more emphasis on the hydro energy for electricity production. To explore the unconventional energy sources like shale gas and coal bed methane Making the nuclear energy as major energy supply by providing higher safety and exploring the new technologies to use this sources more safely and efficiently By making wind, solar and waste recovery as a large share for energy mix By increasing the efficiency of current system Reducing dependency on the on imports Making the solar energy as large part of the energy mix by proper road map for clean energy India has large potential for solar energy
