Participates in a global society and understands one’s
role as a global citizen
On July 7, 2005, less than four months after my return
from England, fifty-two people were killed and hundreds of
others injured when terrorists deployed bombs in the
underground subway system and on a bus in London… the
busses and subway cars that I had been on only months
before. I suddenly realized what it felt like to be connected
to the world and what was happening in it; I also began to
understand that I had previously felt somewhat
disconnected from events that happened outside of my
realm of experience, such as those happening
internationally… the world seemed utterly interconnected
as I had never felt that it was before…For me, this was a
tremendous lesson in what it means to be a citizen of the
world.
