Women treated unfair by the Health Care systemNot anymore!!

Why are women treated unfair!!

Women are being treated unfair due to the expensive cost for birth control, pregnancy, mammograms and other treatments only women need.

Affordable Care Act

The Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare is trying to get universal health care for all people in the United States. Women will get a major benefit from the Affordable Care Act. This Act has reduced the gender gap nationwide

Women will receive huge benefits such as birth control and maternity cost

Gender gap in Health Care decreasing

According to Valerie B. Jarrett, Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama and the Chair of the White House Council on Women and Girls, the Affordable Health Act would be "ending the gender gap in premiums" (Jarrett) this would be "just one of the ways the Affordable Care Act protects women". (Jarrett) "Beginning in 2014, insurance companies will no longer be able to deny you coverage due to a preexisting condition, such as having survived cancer, or having been pregnant." (Jarrett)

Under the Affordable Care Act

According to the White House council on women and girls, this new health care reform will help up to 13 million people. (Jarrett, and Tchen)

Birth Control

"Prescription birth control will be available for free, without a copay. Every plan will cover all kinds of birth control (pill, implants, IUDs), but the specific brands available without a co-pay vary by insurance plan" says the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, Reina Schiffrin.

Maternity Cost decreases

As the number of obstetric interventions goes up, so does the cost to cover them, said Kozhimannil. This may ultimately be felt in the form of higher premiums, more expensive copays, or higher deductibles for the privately insured. (qtd by Harold)

HOWEVER!!

Health Care Act violating religious right?

Marci A. Hamilton, a professor of law at Cardozo School of Law, portrayed how some women may feel as if their religious rights were violated. "The challenge was brought by a secular, for-profit company, OBrien Industrial Holdings, and its Chairman, Frank OBrien, who is Catholic. In a nutshell, OBrien objects to the ACA regulations requirement that contraception or sterilization services be included in his employees healthcare plans." (Hamilton)

In my opinion

No matter how bad the economy may get due to this act the United States, I believe need a change in the Health Care System.

This change will help women take better care of themselves verses what they did before due to decreasing cost
