Procedure in Preparing a Classroom Test


1. Know the purpose of the test. 2. Know the knowledge, skills and attitude to be measured 3. Review the content covered in the test 4. Prepare a TOS 5. Analyze if test items match the objectives 6. Consider the time allotted for taking the test 7. Consider the difficulty level of the test 8. Consider the discrimination index of the test. 9. Arrange the test according to type 10. Announce to students the materials needed for test. 11. Analyze scoring and grading system

Short Answer Item


Short answer item is a question used to find out what the learner knows. The student is required to provide an answer rather than to select an answer.

1. Ask for specific information 2. Word the question precisely and concisely 3. Ensure that there is a single or defined number of correct answer 4. Avoid clues to the answer 5. Indicate the marks for the items

Multiple Choice Item


Multiple choice item is a question or incomplete statement followed by four or five options from which the learner selects the best answer.

Guidelines in preparing Multiple choice item questions


1. Word the stem and its alternatives precisely and concisely and avoid unnecessary difficult vocabulary. 2. Include as much of the item in stem but do not include irrelevant materials. 3. State the stem in positive form 4. Keep the alternatives mutually exclusive, homogenous in content, and free from clues to correct option. 5. Layout test items in a clear and consistent manner 6. Avoid alternatives all of the above and none of the above. 7. Ensure one correct option from alternatives 8. Present answer to each of alternative positions in approximately equal number of times and in random order 9. Use functional distractors 10. Analyze each item after each test administration

Matching Type Item


Matching type item is a type of multiple choice which is helpful in assessing ones knowledge to related information. It consists of two columns from which the learner is asked to match appropriate items.

True or false Item Question


True or false item is basically a statement that has to be identified as correct or incorrect.

Guidelines in Preparing True or False Items


1. Ensure the statement is entirely true or false 2. Use false answer for misconception and true for correct ideas 3. Use clear language and avoid double negative 4. Include many questions on a topic to avoid the impact of guessing answers. 5. Avoid trick questions 6. Avoid the terms usually, always and none 7. Place true and false answers in random order
