Features of Dream Car


The Nano's trunk is only accessible from inside the car, as the rear hatch does not open.

One windscreen wiper instead of the usual pair


No power steering, unnecessary due to its light weight. Only one wing mirror Radio or CD player is optional. No airbags on any model . 700cc petrol engine, a suspension and a steering system. No air conditioning in base model .

ATTEMPTS MADE TO REDUCE THE MANUFACTURING COST


Small sized car to be produced in bulk. Intensive use of plastics on the body.

Use of modern day adhesive instead of welding.


High volume parts to be manufactured in one plant. Encouragement to local entreprenuers for assembling the vehicle. Replacement of dealer and dealer margin.

LAND ACQUISITION CONTROVERSIES


Singur was the most fertile land in hoogly. Was the lively hood of a large number of farmers. Farmers protested, backed by the opposition govt.

Land acquired for private enterprise cannot be considered for public purpose.
Tata small car project acquired land which was in excess to what they actually required. Land size was three times to that of Maruti Udyogs plant. Agitations started immediately after fencing of the land.

Special technical sessions by the employees of Tata Motors. Meetings between farmers and company executives. Special training programmes for women. Introduction of technical subjects in local secondary schools and facilities related to sports, infrastructure, career guidance, etc.
