ARBITRATION

a form of alternative dispute resolution(ADR), is a technique for the resolution of disputes outside the courts, where the parties to a dispute refer it to one or more persons (the "arbitrators", "arbiters" or "arbitral tribunal"), by whose decision they agree to be bound.

HISTORY
5th april,1883 set up of a committee for establishment of a tribunal for arbitration . 1884 committee administered by City of London Corporation and London Chamber of Commerce & Industry. 23 nov 1892 chamber was formally inaugrated 1903 tribunal was renamed the London Court of Arbitration 1981- the name of the Court was changed to The London Court of International Arbitration.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership of LCIA Users' Councils is open to any person or body of good standing with a bona fide interest in international commercial arbitration or ADR, including lawyers, arbitrators, mediators, experts, academics, businessmen, law firms and commercial and trading organisations. The LCIA Users' Councils are: African Users' Council Arab Users' Council Asia Pacific Users' Council European Users' Council Latin American and Caribbean Users' Council North American Users' Council

ORGANISATION

The Company
The LCIA is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee.

The Arbitration Court


The LCIA Court is the final authority for the proper application of the LCIA rules.

The Secretariat Headed by the Registrar, the casework Secretariat is based at the International Dispute Resolution Centre in London and is responsible for the day-to-day administration of all disputes referred to the LCIA.
