The payload is to be launched using the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) in its Core Alone configuration called PSLVCA. This configuration does not use any strap-on boosters. It has the capability to send 1100 kg into a 622 km Sun Synchronous Orbit. The flyaway cost for each launch of PSLV is US$ 17 million.

LAUNCH VEHICLE • The payload is to be launched using the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) in its Core Alone configuration called PSLV- CA. • The Core Alone configuration does not use any strap-on boosters. • This configuration has the capability to send 1100 kg into a 622 km sun synchronous orbit. • The flyaway cost for each launch of PSLV is US$ 17 million. PSLV • Height: 44 metre (140 feet) • Diameter: 2.8 metre (9 feet 2 inches) • Mass: 294,000 kilogram (650,000 pounds) • Stages: 4, no strap on for Core Alone • First stage: One Solid Fuel engine with Hydroxyl-terminated polybutadine (HTPB) fuel. • Second Stage: One Vikas Engine using Dinitrogen Tetroxide (N2O4) and Unsymmetrical Di Methyl Hydrazine (UDMH) fuel. • Third Stage: One Solid Fuel Engine • Fourth Stage: Two liquid engines using Mono Methyl Hydrazine (MMH) and Unsymmetrical Di Methyl Hydrazine (UDMH) fuel. PSLV • PSLV was developed to allow India to launch Indian Remote Sensing Satellites (IRS) into Sun Synchronous Orbit. • It is versatile enough to launch small satellites into geostationary transfer orbit. • The PSLV has launched nearly 30 spacecrafts into various orbits. • In April 2008 it successfully launched 10 satellites in one launch breaking the world record held by Russia. • In October 2008, an advanced configuration PSLV-XL launched India’s maiden lunar mission, Chandrayaan- I. • PSLV has had only 1 failure during its development launch due to a software failure. PAYLOADS • PRIMARY PAYLOAD: India’s Oceansat-2 • Cubesat: Switzerland’s SwissCube • Cubesat: Germany’s BeeSat • Cubesat: Germany’s UWE-2 • Cubesat: Turkey’s ITUpSat-1 • Two rubinsats by Luxembourg and Germany Launch Profile • Lift-off from Sriharikota. • After completion of launch sequence, Oceansat-2 will be the first to be deployed by the fourth stage of the PSLV. • Spring action will be used to deploy the 4 cubesats. • The two rubinsats will remain with the fourth stage of PSLV to perform its mission. LIFTOFF LIFTOFF IS EXPECTED ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2009. WE AWAIT MORE DETAILS FROM ISRO.
