SANDSTONE
An extremely hard and tough natural sedimentary stone consisting usually of quartz, silica , iron oxide and calcium oxide. It is mined by quarrying. It is sometimes found where there used to be small sea areas. It is usually formed in deserts or dry places like the Sahara Desert in Africa, the Arabian desert in the Middle East and the Australian desert. It is durable and red in color mostly . Weather resistant , acid resistant and thermal resistant. It has Crushing Strength of 5-10MPa . It comes in many colors and shades. It was a popular building material in ancient times. It is relatively soft , making it easy to carve. It has been widely used around the world in constructing temples, cathedrals, homes and other buildings. It has also been used for artistic purposes to create ornamental fountains and statues. Sandstone An Ideal Stone for Paving Sandstone, also called arenite, is a kind of sedimentary rock, which is mainly composed of sand-sized minerals or rock grains. The majority of sandstones consist of minerals like quartz, feldspar, hematite and mica. These are of various types, depending upon their place of origin. Each type is suitable for certain application areas.
However, sandstone found its application in a multitude of areas like for making garden benches, fountains, sculptures, decorative items, etc., but its most popular use could be seen for the purpose of paving. Sandstone, being a stone of high strength and durability is considered ideal for making pavements. Here are some more reasons that make sandstone an ideal stone for the purpose of paving: Price is one of the most important considerations in any work, especially in a task like paving, which involves the use of stones in large numbers. Sandstone is quite an affordable stone, hence appropriate for paving.
These are inherently waterproof and weather resistant by their very nature. The sedimentation process in nature is responsible for their formation, which provides them this strength. It is a very versatile stone, which is available in beautiful shades and neutral colors including brown and tan shades. Also, sandstone paving can be used both inside and outside the house owing to its hard wearing nature.
Its paving compliments both contemporary and traditional building or home styles. The natural sandstone paving are timeless and classic in appeal.
Sandstone paving are eye-catching by their very appearance. They look stunning, irrespective of the designs and patterns carved on them. Nowadays, sandstone is being widely used for interior flooring and paving purposes also because of its attractive quality.
SANDSTONE TEXTURES
Sandstones have different surface textures, which varies according to their formation. However now a days the stones are fabricated as the desired texture and the usage. There are six main types of surfaces that are in use.
Natural The natural surface texture is achieved by ripping along its line of cleavage to reveal the natural grain & texture. This texture gives an undulating surface with great character. The surface comes with natural clefts giving a very natural look. Flamed this texture provides a rough surface. The roughness in the surface is a result of bursting of crystals when the stone is heated. Such a surface gives an irregular textured finish. Polished Polished surface texture is a reflection of polished crystals. Such texture brings out the brilliant colors and grains of natural stones. The shine on stone surface comes from polishing bricks and powders used during fabrication and not from any coating. Honed The honed texture is produced by grinding a surface with high grit material to a uniform specification, such that it does not produce a reflective surface. Thus honed stone colors are not as vibrant as polished stones. A smooth finish with a slight sheen is produced by using a polishing head. This surface is very smooth, but often very porous. Bush Hammered A pounding action that develops a textured surface. The top surface is pneumatically tooled to produce a pitted or grooved surface finish
Sawn Sawn surface is coarsely polished leaving a semi-smooth, regular finish. It is done by using a gang saw. Sand Blasted Producing a finish similar to cleft, sand blasting involves projecting a high-pressure airline coarse-grained grit, onto the top surface of the stone. It is characterized by a textured surface with a matte gloss. TILE
A Tile Is A Manufactured Piece Of Hard-wearing Material Such As Ceramic, Stone, Metal, Or Even Glass. Generally Used For Covering Roofs, Floors, Walls, Showers, Or Other Objects Such As Tabletops. Tiles are often used to form wall and floor coverings, and can range from simple square tiles to complex mosaics. These are most often made from porcelain, fired clay or ceramic with a hard glaze, but other materials are also commonly used, such as glass, metal, cork, and stone. Tiling stone is typically marble, onyx, granite or slate. Thinner tiles can be used on walls than on floors, which require thicker, more durable surfaces. TYPES OF TILES Ceramic Tiles Mosaic Tiles Glass Tiles Terracotta Tiles Terrazzo Tiles Brick Tiles Pebbles Tiles Ceiling Tiles Digital Tiles Porcelain Tile
CERAMIC TILES Ceramic comes from the Greek term Keramos, meaning "a potter" or "pottery. Since the infancy of ceramics, up to this very day, the process is still very much the same; for the creation of all ceramic materials, one needs to bake a mixture of clays at a very high temperature. A ceramic tile, therefore, is the resulting product, after a mixture of clays have been treated appropriately, pressed, fired at a high temperature and cut to size. A ceramic tile consists of two parts: the body, which is called the bisque and the surface, which is called the glaze. 1. WALL TILE As a name suggest , these tiles are used on walls . Wall tiles are thinner than floor tiles. Because of gravity, wall tiles are made slightly thinner to make adherence to your wall easier. These are often more porous on their adhesive side than ceramic floor tiles, again for ease of installation. Thickness = 8mm-10mm Sizes available : 150x600mm , 300 x 600mm, 300 x 300mm Rates = 2. FLOOR TILE Used on floors Thicker than wall tiles. Harder than wall tiles. Thickness = 12mm Sizes available = 600x600 mm, 445x 445mm , 1000x1000mm , 1200x 600 mm Rates =

VITRIFIED TILES Vitrified tiles are non-glazed tiles. The embedding of material in a glassy matrix is also called vitrification. Their hardness and polish is achieved by virtue of the pressing together of very hard materials . Vitrified tiles are extremely strong and durable . These are processed in such a way that they allow for very little water absorption. Vitrified tiles have a water absorption of < 0.1%. Vitrified tiles allow for a full body tile, which means that the design is not merely on the surface of the tile, but runs throughout the entire tile. The advantage of this is that the tiles become incredibly strong. MOSAIC Mosaic is the art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials. It is a technique of decorative art, an aspect of interior decoration, or of cultural and spiritual significance as in a cathedral. Small pieces, normally roughly cubic, of stone or glass of different colors, known as tesserae, (diminutive tessellae), are used to create a pattern or picture. Mosaic tiles are durable , dense , water tight and have a hard wearing surface because they are manufactured in hydraulic presses , in factories under controlled conditions. They can be easily laid. A mix of 1:1:5 (cement to marble powder) can be considered to be a good mix. Polishing etc can be done in-suite terrazzo floor. 1. Glass mosaic tiles 2. Marble stone mosaic tiles 3. Ceramic mosaic tiles 4. Stone mosaic tiles Glass mosaic tiles are made by using different shapes and color of glasses. Center pieces of glass , borders and highlighter of glass mosaic are available. These are little costly than other tiles. These tiles are used for flooring , pool side paving , kitchen and bathroom walls, etc. Pattern and colors scheme of mosaic is according to the details mentioned by the clients.

GLASS TILES Glass tiles are frost proof, resistant to fading, discoloration, and chemical damage, and are impervious to water and stains. These properties make them suitable for home use, including backsplashes, swimming pools and spas, and various outdoor applications. Because they contain glass, these tiles can also be more susceptible to chipping and cracking than ceramic tiles. They can disintegrate if they are not installed correctly, if placed in an area where they are exposed to sudden & extreme temperature change, or if they come in violent contact with hard metal objects. Always check with the manufacturer for specifications before you install. BRICK TILES Brick tile is also called thin brick or brick veneer. It can be installed any place a that stone veneer or siding is used, such as home exteriors, floors, patios, fireplaces, or walls. Brick tile is made either from salvaged brick shaved into thin slices, or from new clay that is molded into tiles.

TERACOTTA TILES Terracotta is a clay-based unglazed ceramic tile , although the term can also be applied to glazed ceramics where the fired body is porous and red in color. brownish orange color
Terracotta Roof Tile PORCELAIN TILES Porcelain tiles are made from a blend of fine-grain clays and other minerals to produce a very dense body, which makes them highly resistant to moisture, staining and wear. These tiles are more dense than ceramic tiles and have water absorption of >0.5% and <3%. Because porcelain tiles have low water absorption, they are usually frost resistant. Porcelain tiles with special glazes fired at high temperature make the glazed surfaces very hard, and therefore, suitable for heavy traffic areas. Porcelain tiles are resistant to stains, scratches, frost and abrupt thermal changes. Because of these features, they are able to withstand years of heavy foot traffic in both interior and various exterior locations. They are also able to maintain their color and beauty for a very long time.
VITRIFIED TILES VS MARBLE Marble has a relatively lower abrasion resistance (The ability of a material to withstand mechanical action such as rubbing, scraping, or erosion, that tends progressively to remove material from its surface) compared to Vitrified Tiles.
Vitrified Tiles have far superior properties compared to marble or natural granite because being a manufactured product their quality is controlled whereas in naturally occurring marble and granite good quality is just a coincidence. Marble yellows over extended time duration whereas Vitrified Tiles retains their color for decades. Polished natural granite shows several surface defects and a good quality is just a matter of chance whereas Vitrified Tiles are guaranteed for consistent good quality.
Marble needs regular polishing and develops cracks easily. Main advantages of Vitrified Tiles are they are tougher, rigid and scratch resistant. Marble laying is very cumbersome and time consuming whereas Vitrified Tiles may be laid in a matter of hours and put to use after 48 hours.
When comparing with Marble, Vitrified Tiles are not affected by fire and are absolutely fire safe flooring material. Marble shows several surface defects but Vitrified Tiles are guaranteed for consistent good quality and Vitrified Tiles are not affected by the use of hydrochloric acid as a cleaner. Marble is a metamorphic rock made up of calcite where Vitrified Tiles are a man-made product produced by compacting clay dust under enormous pressure into molds. For Cleaning Marble flooring, stone cleaners or mild detergents should be used. But Vitrified Tiles can be washed with any tile cleaner and method.
