INTRODUCTION

 Most amazing, yet brutal discovery of

19th Century.

 Remarkable product of precision

engineering.
HISTORY
 The first machine gun was invented
by James Puckle in England in 1718
 Successful Machine Gun came to
existence in the year 1862
 Hiram Maxim used the idea of
harnessing recoil energy to power
loading in his Maxim Machine Gun
WORLDS FIRST MACHINE
GUN
Modern Bullet
A combination of a
projectile (the
bullet), a
propellant
(gunpowder, for
example) and a
primer (the
explosive cap), all
contained in one
metal package.
 Pointed bullets was first designed by
Cpt.John Norton of the British army in
1823
 Bullets shape is important for its
aerodynamics.
 Any asymmetry in the bullet affects
its path of movement
FEATURES OF AK 47 RIFLE
Developed by Mikhail Klashnikov
 Length 870mm
 Magazine Capacity 30 Rounds
 Sighting Range 800m
 Rate Of Fire 600rds/min
 Muzzle Velocity 700m/s
 Killing Range 1500m
Fully Automatic Machine Gun
 Fully
automatic machine gun use the
power of the cartridge explosion to reload
and re-cock the gun after each shot.

 Thereare three basic mechanisms for

harnessing this power:
1)Recoil systems
2)Blowback systems
3)Gas mechanisms
Recoil System
A locking
mechanism
holds together
the barrel and
the breach bolt.
 Bolt and the
barrel can
move freely in
the gun
housing
Blowback System
 When the trigger is
pulled, the sear
releases the bolt, and
the spring drives it
forward.
 After the bolt
chambers the
cartridge, the firing
pin sets off the
primer, which ignites
the propellant
Blowback System
 The explosive gas
from the cartridge
drives the bullet down
the barrel. At the
same time, the gas
pressure pushes in the
opposite direction,
forcing the bolt
backward.
Gas System
 Similar to Blowback
system.
 The main addition is a
narrow piston,
attached to the bolt,
that slides back and
forth in a cylinder
positioned above the
gun barrel
FUTURE MACHINE GUNS
 SCAR-Light (USA)
 More accurate
 SCAR uses quick changing barrels
that can be swapped using a minimal
number of tools
 5.56mm caliber Machine Gun
XM-25 (USA)
A computer aided targeting system
that allows the user to quickly aim at
a target to adjust the range of the
bullet
 25mm calibre Machine Gun
SAR 21 (Singapore)
 Integrated visible/Infrared laser sight
 1.5x optical scope
 5.56mm Calibre Machine Gun
CORNER SHOT LAUNCHER
(Germany)
 Fittedwith a camera and video
screen
 One shot grenade launcher
 Rounds can be fired at a 90 degree
angle
 60mm Calibre
KRISS (USA)
 Recoil mechanism is on the handle
hence the accuracy is increased
 Can fire 1500rds/min
 Also Can fire bigger rounds
 .45 Cal Machine Gun
Conclusion
 Machine gun had been one of the most important
military developments in the history of man. It
has been the reason behind the fall of many
nations, repressing revolutions, overthrowing
governments and ending wars.
 Gun manufacturers are continually adding new
modifications to machine guns, but the basic
mechanism has remained the same for more than
a hundred years. Some of the modern machine
guns can be fired using a remote control.
