The characters in the novel are often complicated as are their relationships. Book One develops the following relationships: Scout is the one telling the story and the one learning lessons Jem and Dill influence Scouts actions and childhood behaviour Boo Radley sits in the middle; he is a tool to teach morals to the children and he is a symbol of kindness Miss Maudie teaches truth and is a powerful motherly figure for Scout Atticus, at the opposite end, is a moral compass for Scout. He teaches and guides the children appropriately
