What is Internet?
Internet is a global network connecting millions of computers. More than 100 countries are linked into exchanges The of data, news and opinions. The Internet carries an extensive range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents of the World Wide Web (WWW), the infrastructure to support email, and peer-to-peer networks. Most traditional communications media including telephone, music, film, and television are being reshaped or redefined by the Internet, giving birth to new services such as voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Internet Protocol television (IPTV). Newspaper, book and other print publishing are adapting to website technology, or are reshaped into blogging and web feeds.

Uses of internet
Internet is today one of the most important part of our daily life.
Source of information:The internet has become the source of information as there is nothing, on which you cannot find information by browsing the internet, whether about science, technology, mathematics, history, countries, sociology, medicine, engineering, sports, games, music, movie, jobs or education.

Source of news:The internet provides the latest news for its users in form of online newspapers, news groups, RSS feeds and social networking sites. It also creates a huge database of archived news which is easily accessible.

Communication:The primary goal of internet is communication. Using e-mails, chat services, video conferencing, we can contact a person who is physically present thousand miles away within the fraction of a seconds time.

Entertainment:Internet functions as a popular medium of entertainment. A wide variety of entertainment including online video games, music, movies, chat room, news and others can be accessed through the internet.

E-commerce :E -commerce refers to the buying and selling of products or services over the internet. E-commerce has become a fantastic option through which you can shop or sell anything. e.g.:- ebay.in , flipkart.com, makemytrip.com etc.

Internet has many other uses also e.g.:- services, web2.0 etc.

Web Browsers
A web browser (commonly referred to as a browser) is a software application for retrieving, presenting and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web. An information resource is identified by a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI/URL) and may be a web page, image, video or other piece of content.[1] Hyperlinks present in resources enable users easily to navigate their browsers to related resources.

Example:Internet Explorer , Mozilla Firefox , Google Chrome, Opera etc.

Search engine
A web search engine is a software system that is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. The search results are generally presented in a line of results often referred to as search engine results pages (SERPs). The information may be a specialist in web pages, images, information and other types of files. Some search engines also mine data available in databases or open directories. Unlike web directories, which are maintained only by human editors, search engines also maintain realtime information by running an algorithm on a web crawler.
