Briefing about IITs

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is a group of autonomous engineering and technology oriented institute of higher education in India. The IITs are governed by the Institute of Technology Act, 1960. IITs are listed as societies under the Indian Societies Registration Act. The first IIT was established in 1951 in Kharagpur, West Bengal. Other Institutions were established from 1961 in Mumbai, Chennai, Kanpur, New Delhi, Guwahati and Roorkee. IIT-BHU, Varanasi is the ninth Institute of Technology.

Branding
IITs have special status under the Indian Institute of Technology Act. Appox, as of 2010 data, around 9500 students graduate out of IITs from the engineering discipline. The IIT rigor, the achievement of past students, the difficulty to get in and the great post completion track record at placements and otherwise, have created an indelible brand around IITs.

IIT-JEE is an annual college examination in India.17 college uses JEE as a sole criteria for selection procedure which includes 7 old & 8 new(2009) IITs, IT-BHU(Varanasi), ISM(Dhanbad). Other Institutions that provide admission on the basis of JEE: Indian Institute of Science Education & Research at (Kolkata, Pune, Mohali, Bhopal, Tiruvandapuram) , Indian Maritime University and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology. Candidates can get admission on the basis of JEE in programmes like: Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Design, Bachelor of Technology, Dual degree(Bachelor of Technology & Master of Technology), Integrated MSc (Master of Science) and Integrated MScTech (Master of Science and Technology).

4,80,0000 candidates have appeared for JEE in 2011,across 1051 centres in India for 9618 seats. 13100 candidates have qualified JEE and they were offered selectivity of 1 in 35 overall, 1 in 48 for IITs, IT-BHU, ISM and 1 in 61 for IITs only.

Examination Format From 2000 IIT-JEE is conducted in two phases. Mandatory for students who want to join B.Arch and B.Design.

SUPER 30
Super 30 is an Indian educational program that started in Patna, Bihar. 1992-Anand kumar started a mathematics training center. 1994- He got an opportunity to pursue higher education in Cambridge University. Having witnessed extreme financial hardship since childhood, he decided to do something for poor students.

How super 30 Works

He trained students examinations. for various competitive

His brother Pranav Kumar (talented violinist) planned to start the innovative Super 30 Programme. The program selects 30 meritorious and talented candidates each year. In the last nine years, 236 students out of 270 have been accepted various IITs in the country.

 In 2003 when Super 30 started its journey 18 out of 30 students completed the course. In 2004, it jumped to 22. In 2005, it improved further to 26. In 2006 and 2007, it continued to 28. For the third year in succession it has been 30 out of 30. In 2011, 24 out of 30 candidates were able to make it into IITs.
