We will experience
God more completely

we learn, more fully,

Our Holiness is …
Not a place to be
reached …
… but the direction
of our lives, in
Christ.

Justice
When a person
receives
what is due.
God
is
Righteous
Righteous
• Being Right
• Doing Right
• Putting Right
Psalm 36:6
Your righteousness is
like the mighty
mountains, Your justice
like the ocean depths.
Psalm 89:14
Righteousness
and justice are the
foundation of Your
throne.
Isaiah 5:16
But the Lord of Heaven’s
Armies will be exalted by
His justice. The
holiness of God will be
displayed by His
righteousness.
Psalm 99:4
Mighty King, lover of
justice, You have
established fairness. You
have acted with justice
and righteousness
throughout Israel.
Galatians 6:7
Don’t be misled—you
cannot mock the justice
of God. You will always
harvest what you plant.
Justice
Whatever God
wills is Just.
Righteous
Whatever God
does is right!
Judgment
God distributes
rewards and
punishments.
1 Chronicles 16:33
Let the trees of the forest
rustle with praise, for the
Lord is coming
to judge the earth.
Job 21:22
But who can teach a
lesson to God, since
He judges even the most
powerful?
Psalm 9:8
He will judge the world
with justice and rule the
nations with fairness.
Psalm 75:7
It is God alone who
judges; He decides who
will rise and who will fall.
Ecclesiastes 12:14
God will judge us for
everything we do,
including every secret
thing, whether good or
bad.
1 Peter 4:5
But remember that they
will have to face God,
who will judge everyone,
both the living and the
dead.
“Sinners in the Hands
of an Angry God”
Jonathan Edwards
Enfield, Connecticut
July 8, 1741
The bow of God's wrath is bent,
and the arrow made ready on the
string, and justice bends the arrow
at your heart, and strains the bow,
and it is nothing but the mere
pleasure of God, and that of an
angry God, without any promise or
obligation at all, that keeps the
arrow one moment from being
made drunk with your blood.
Thus all you that never passed
under a great change of heart, by
the mighty power of the Spirit of
God upon your souls; all you that
were never born again, and made
new creatures, and raised from
being dead in sin, to a state of
new, and before altogether
unexperienced light and life, are in
the hands of an angry God.
However you may have reformed
your life in many things, and may
have had religious affections, and
may keep up a form of religion in
your families and closets, and in
the house of God, it is nothing but
his mere pleasure that keeps you
from being this moment swallowed
up in everlasting destruction.
However unconvinced you may
now be of the truth of what you
hear, by and by you will be fully
convinced of it. Those that are
gone from being in the like
circumstances with you, see that it
was so with them; for destruction
came suddenly upon most of
them; when they expected nothing
of it, and while they were saying,
Peace and safety: now they see,
that those things on which they
depended for peace and safety,
were nothing but thin air and
empty shadows.
"Therefore let everyone that is out
of Christ, now awake and fly from
the wrath to come."
Job 37:23
We cannot imagine the
power of the Almighty;
but even though He
is just and righteous,
He does not destroy us.
Isaiah 51:5
My mercy and justice
are coming soon. My
salvation is on the way.
My strong arm will
bring justice to the
nations.
Romans 3:26
For He was looking
ahead and including
them in what He would
do in this present time.
God did this to
demonstrate His

righteousness, for He
Himself is fair and just,
and He declares sinners
to be right in His sight
when they believe in
Jesus.
Mercy
Not receiving
the punishment
we deserve.
Grace
Receiving the
reward we
don’t deserve.
Romans 5:15-21
15
But there is a great difference
between Adam’s sin and God’s
gracious gift. For the sin of this
one man, Adam, brought death to
many. But even greater is God’s
wonderful grace and His gift of
forgiveness to many through this
other man, Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:15-21
16
And the result of God’s
gracious gift is very different from
the result of that one man’s sin.
For Adam’s sin led to
condemnation, but God’s free gift
leads to our being made right with
God, even though we are guilty of
many sins.
Romans 5:15-21
17
For the sin of this one man,
Adam, caused death to rule over
many. But even greater is God’s
wonderful grace and His gift of
righteousness, for all who receive
it will live in triumph over sin and
death through this one man, Jesus
Christ.
Romans 5:15-21
18
Yes, Adam’s one sin brings
condemnation for everyone, but
Christ’s one act of righteousness
brings a right relationship with
God and new life for everyone.
19
Because one person disobeyed
God, many became sinners. But
because one other person obeyed
Romans 5:15-21
God, many will be made righteous.
20 God’s law was given so that all
people could see how sinful they
were. But as people sinned more
and more, God’s wonderful grace
became more abundant. So just

as sin ruled over all people and
brought them to death, now God’s

wonderful grace rules instead,
giving us right standing with God
and resulting in eternal life through
Jesus Christ our Lord.
