Introduction
Located near Panambur near Mangalore in Karnataka 9th largest port in India & only major port in Karnataka Construction began in 1962 & completed in 12 years

Formally inaugurated on May 4, 1974 by PM Indira Gandhi

Stationed to north of confluence of Gurupura river to Arabian sea

Initially, was under management of central government

Now managed by New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT)

Ground opening ceremony:Then Prime Minister of India Late Sri Lalbahadur Shastri Jee opening the Ground

Then Prime Minister Late Smt. Indira Gandhi Jee at the Inaugural Function

Situated on the west coast of India, 170 nautical miles south of Mormugao & 191 nautical miles north of Cochin port
major sea routes connects with Middle East, Africa & East Asia with Europe & America

Handles 75% of Indias Coffee & cashew exports

NMPT is 10th major port trust of the country

Last year in TOI
o NMPT registered 13% growth in traffic handling o Leading port among major ports in handling LPG & coffee o Encourages eradication of social & environmental issues

o NMPT celebrated Hindi Day in respect for our National Language o NMPT added green quotient to the area by planting 10,000 saplings in year 2013
