Function & use: Paint is used to protect the exterior of a building (against moisture and oxidation) or to beautify its interior (decorative finish).
Properties of paints:1. 2. Consistency:- Neither too thick nor too thinner. Spreading power:-It is the covering capacity
of the paint measured in terms of square meters of area that can be covered by one liter of the paint material.
3. 4.
5.
Drying:-Time taken to be dry by the paint. Durability:-It is the time period during which the
paint coating maintains its decorative & protective values.
Types of paint:Most common types of paints are listed below : Enamels Water Paints & Distempers Cold cured material Clear Finishes
1.
Enamels:-
Oil-based paints, Alkyd & other Resins:-These paints contains lead pigment
or titanium white. These are non-toxic paints. Coverage--> liquid paint=16 sq m. Jelly paint=12 sq m.
ENAMELS
2.
Emulsion paints:-Water thinned, easy to clean the bruses and remove splashes, higher resistance to moisture than ordinary paints Coverage--> liquid=14 sq m. Jelly=9 sq m. Acrylic or semi gloss emulsion:-Based on acrylic emulsion, they can be thinned with water. Coverage--> liquid=12-14 sq m. Jelly=7-9 sq m.
EMULSIONS
Water Paints and Distempers: Washable distemper:-Marginally cheaper than emulsion paint, but not as hard-wearing. Coverage=14 sq m. Matte finish. Cement or stone paint:-Portland cement+CaCl2+lime=water repellant fatty acid soap Coverage=12-14 sq m. matte finish
CEMENT PAINT
3.
Polyurethane (one pack):-Forms a hard surface which will stand up well to moisture and rough treatment. These are dried by cross-linking, induced by chemical agents. Coverage=12-16 sq. m. depending on brand.
4.
