Development, Validation and Acceptability of Modules in Philippine Literature for the Grade Seven Students

Why is it IMPORTANT? Abstract


This study aimed to develop, validate and determine the acceptability of the developed module for the Grade Seven students. The respondents of this study were the 30 randomly selected grade seven students of Tagumpay National High School who were enrolled during the school year 2013- 2014.

Ten faculty respondents from the University of Rizal System, Rodriguez and Tagumpay National High School were selected to evaluate the acceptability of the module. The study made use the experimental method utilizing the pretest- posttest single group design and a descriptive method.

The instruments used in the study were the researchers made pretest and posttest, developed module to evaluate the acceptability of the material in terms of the objectives, content, activities, creativity, organization, style and presentation and evaluation.

Percent, frequency and weighted mean were utilized to determine the significant difference between the performances of the students in pretest- posttest. T- test for dependent means were applied to determine the acceptability of the module as perceived by faculty respondents in terms of objectives, content, activities, organization, style and presentation and evaluation, average mean was used.

Statement of the Problem


The study was conducted to design, develop and validate modules in Philippine Literature for the grade seven students. Specifically, the study aimed to answer the following questions: 1. What are the mean scores of the respondents in the pre-test and post-test? 2. Is there a significant difference between the pretest and post-test, mean scores of the respondents?

3. What is the level of effectiveness of the developed modules as assessed by the teacher respondent in terms of: 3.1 Objectives 3.2 Content 3.3 Activities 3.4 Presentation, 3.5 Language And Style 3.6 Creativity 3.7 Assessment And 3.8 Evaluation?

Summary of Findings
The mean score of the respondents in the pretest is 38.3, while the mean score of the posttest is 59.67. The p-value 0.000 is less than 0.05 level of significance, the null hypothesis was rejected. The level of acceptability of the developed modules as evaluated by the teacher respondents was highly acceptable.

Objectives has 4.593 Content has 4.458 Activities has 4.444 Creativity has 4.5325 Organization has 4.5092 Style and Presentation has 4.4 Evaluation has 4.358 Highly Acceptable

Conclusions:
Students increased their learning in Philippine Literature with the used of the developed module. The selected topics facilitate learning among the Grade 7 students. Developed modules can be used as reference or supplemental materials.

Recommendations:
To the students -continue to seek for more instructional materials that can improve and enhance your knowledge specifically in Philippine Literature To the teachers Considering the students diversity, search for more instructional materials that will help the students to cope with the lesson easily and effectively.

To the School Administrators - Conduct activities that will engage the students to value Philippine literature. To The Parents -Invest instructional materials to help learning of their child more effectively and meaningful. To The Researchers they may conduct the same study using other possible variables in order to modify and improve the findings of this study.
