Process of DNA Replication

(DNA, 2011)

Role of Enzymes

Helicase: unwinds the double helix into two individual strands Primase: an RNA polymerase which synthesizes short RNA primers to start the strand replication process (Port & Cepaitis, 2013) DNA polymerase: strings nucleotides together to form a DNA strand

DNA ligase: links short strands of DNA together to form a long DNA strand

Role of Ligase

DNA ligase is an enzyme that creates phosphodiester bonds between nucleotides between Okazaki fragments (Ahern & Rajapopal, 2013) DNA ligase links the 3hydroxyl and 5-phosphate group of Okazaki fragments (Purves, et al., 2001)

Role of mRNA
CYTOPLASM NUCLEUS
Protein Chain

Amino acids

Transcription is DNA to mRNA Translation is mRNA to amino acids mRNA copies information in nucleus and binds with ribosome and calls for tRNA (Port & Cepaitis, 2013) tRNA reads mRNA and brings amino acids to attach and create a protein chain (Port & Cepaitis, 2013)

Inhibition of RNA Polymerase

RNA polymerase is an enzyme that binds to DNA during transcription

Unwinds the DNA strands Uses one strand as a template Able to copy a single DNA sequence into RNA enables a single gene to produce hundreds of RNA molecules (Ahern & Rajapopal, 2013)

Peptide alpha-amanitin attaches to RNA and blocks RNA polymerase production

Inhibits formation of mRNA and stops the synthesis of protein and the body will be unable to create a template for transcription (Santi, 2012)
The body will ultimately fail as a result
