Teacher Buican Mariana

The length of the lesson : 90 min Numbers of pupils that should be involved : 20 The age / level of the students : 15 years / 9 th grade

Title : Science - What wonderful world ! Location : school ICT Lab

The objectives :

-development of the interest of students for study of the natural sciences ; - the development of the capacity to interpret various scientific texts so that they can write own their essays, reports or scientific papers ; -developing of language skills by using a scientifically correct language in written and oral presentations.

The lesson's moments

1.Pre-activities Communication of lesson's title Science - What wonderful world ! Capture students attention Teacher explain the role of science development of society and say that science is systematized knowledge. It is not only the knowledge of nature (natural sciences) and systems made by human (technical sciences) but also typically human activities (humanities, including political and moral). Watching of the movie Science: Where Can It Take You? EPCA
2.Activity Teacher showes on a large screen the following text and students are invited to read it : Sciences have need a proper object of study , methods and techniques of study , own laws which can be expressed verbally, in words as well in mathematical language. Understanding the material world is based on advanced knowledge of physics, chemistry , biology and math . Task : please , open Facebook page for inGenoius project https://www.facebook.com/groups/324551747609313/ go at the album with name Science: where can it take you ? (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.549106935153792&type=1 ) and download images as the some form next slides and group them as well to define as well with them the following sciences: physics, chemistry, biology and math.

So, with help of images ,the students must write the definitions of chemistry, physics, biology and math : - Chemistry is the science that studies the composition, structure, properties and transformations of substances. Chemical phenomena are the transformations it undergoes the things . Phenomena are the transformations of substances which change them composition . - Physics is the science that studies the properties of things ,interactions among them and transformations that occur between them without changing their composition. - Biology is the science concerned with the study of all living organisms and how they interact with the environment. - Mathematics is the science concerned with the study of sizes , the quantitative relations and spatial forms , using deductive reasoning . Teacher must to mention that because of these features chemistry, physics , biology and math are independent sciences but as well the foundation of numerous science: materials science, environmental science, ecology, medicine, pharmacy, agriculture, food industry, electronics.

3. Post-activities Watching of the movie Science: Where Can It Take You? EPCA Task

1. Specify of the own subject of study for each science : physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics ( 2 p.)
2. Related which are the sciences linked with physical chemistry, biology, mathematics and suggested by images from the watched movie (2 p.) 3. Make a drawing in paint soft by which you can show the connections among physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and related sciences(2 p.) 4. To emphasize the importance of scientific research shows what instruments, apparatus, equipment and other products of scientific research in recent decades have noticed in pictures from watched movie (2 p.) 5. What are the benefits and possible risks that results by using of these products ? (2 p.)

The added value of the video in the lesson

With help of the images from the watched movie , the students can understand more easy :
-importance of scientific research ; -infinite possibilities of use thanks to very small size of integrated circuits , low consumption of energy , small spaces for storage of them; -dangers as results of improper use of equipment, apparatus, machines or devices of last generation; -possibility of using textbooks in electronic format and the benefits resulting from their use; -possibility of vacations anywhere in any corner of the world thanks to modern means of transport; -dangers of the different types of pollution; -increase of rate for scientific discovery.
