COURSE BRIEF Management education in India needs to be viewed differently from the rest of the world. While post graduate management courses were conceived for working managers, the Indian scenario has most students with no work experience Therefore traditional methods of teaching need to be also redesigned to suit them to the needs of the type of target audience we receive. Sunstone has already pioneered successfully in India online management education with the problem based learning pedagogy which has been customized further to develop UPLIFT.
- Understanding the UPLIFT teaching pedagogy - Being able to deliver a topic as per the UPLIFT teaching pedagogy
UPLIFT U (UNDERSTANDING)
Classroom Teaching as practiced mostly in regular courses right now with the objective of the tutor to make students aware of the basic concepts. HOW THE STUDENT ENGAGES: By Listening and Seeing
UPLIFT P (PRACTICE)

UPLIFT L (LEARNING)
Problem Based Learning Approach: -Defining the core problem which should be contemporary and mirror professional practice TruEarth Health Foods: Market Research for a New Product Introduction Refer to the above mentioned case study. The New Product for launch here is a fresh whole grain pizza. Assume that this launch is being planned in India and the exhibits 6 to 10 reflect data of a market research in India. Also considering a price parity ratio of 1:7, the conversion of dollar equivalent may be considered by a multiple of 7 i.e. in Table B Average spend per purchase (retail) of $12.38 can be taken as Rs.86.66 If your group has to make the launch plan now, how would you segment the market, target which potential customer and plan a positioning accordingly for the product. HOW THE STUDENT ENGAGES: By Doing
UPLIFT I (IMBIBING)
Finding practical problems around and solving the same: -These should be ill-structured the way it generally comes at actual work The role of the tutor is to make the students find and explore without spoon feeding. In the name of motivation and trying to complete deadlines, handholding should not result in doing by self HOW THE STUDENT ENGAGES: By Applying and Thinking
UPLIFT F (FUTURE)
Students need to think and innovate beyond the current way to how things could be shaped in the future -The learning needs to become boundary less -In practice, there is no such thing as a "marketing problem." Any action taken in the marketing area of the firm impacts on the operational area and the financial area. As firms today are learning the importance of becoming more "boundary less" and organizing around processes designed to serve customers, learning outcomes need to become more boundary less.
-It makes little sense to have to work hard at the end of an educational process to attempt to "integrate" disciplines when the disciplines should never have been differentiated to begin with.
-Projects, activities, assignments should be provided in a manner that their solution is not available directly and a student needs to engage. HOW THE STUDENT ENGAGES:
By Innovating
UPLIFT T (TECHNOLOGY)
Students need to be comfortable with the use of technology. It is an established way of life and progress in the world today. There is hardly any worthwhile career that can efficiently operate without the use of technology. While many students are provided laptops nowadays and with smart phones becoming the norm, almost all are always connected now. But their use hardly goes beyond chatting, downloading movies and songs, and using the google search engine for everything. We also know that if someone is very good at finding the right information from the internet even through a search engine like google, they are valuable, but students tend to just pick up anything and everything available without checking relevance and reproduce the same. As a tutor, using an LMS, making students only communicate through email, taking online lectures, are initial engagements which can further improve over time. HOW THE STUDENT ENGAGES: By continuously using technology and thereby getting more productive and attuned to taking maximum benefit from the use of technology. Also improve communication skills.
