Overview

Integrating and analyzing large volumes of data is essential

to present an accurate picture of the business situation.
There are various tools and applications available that help
in analyzing data. Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet
application used for budgeting, accounting, performing
financial analysis, and predicting business trends.

Mathematical Functions

The SUMIF function is used to add values in a range if

certain conditions are fulfilled.
The SUMPRODUCT function is used to calculate products
of corresponding values and returns their sum.

Computing Data

Problem Statement 1.1 (Practice)

David Wong, the Operations Manager of the Sales
Department of Books Treasure, Inc., wants to generate the
monthly sales report. function is used to add values in a
range if certain conditions are fulfilled.
Task
To generate the sales report for Books Treasure, Inc.:
Calculate the total sales for the month of July.
Compute the profit for each book category.

1. C1:C8 contains values: 20, 21, 28, 24, 28, 28, 20, 28.
What will be the return value of =SUMIF(C1:C8,”=28”)?
2. Is it mandatory to enclose the formulae within brackets?

Logical Functions

IF function evaluates an expression and returns either a

true or a false value.
Nested IF function evaluates multiple conditions.
AND function checks if all the given conditions are met.

Presenting Informational Data

Problem Statement 1.2 (Practice)

Books Treasure, Inc. needs to prepare another report
with complete data of books including the book names,
price, and the discount offered based on the price of the
books.
Task
Perform the following tasks:
Display ‘No Sales’ for the books whose quantity sold is zero.
Display ‘No Sales’ for the books whose quantity sold is zero.

1. What will be the result of: =AND (C1>10,C2=15) if the cell

C1 and C2 contain the values 11 and 16, respectively?
2. What will be the result of: =NOT (D1<20) if the cell D1
contains 10?

Statistical Functions

The TREND function provides estimate for any given period

on the basis of the data from the previous periods.
Standard deviation (STDEV) function is used to define as
the measure of how widely values are dispersed from the
average value (the mean).

Predicting Trends

Problem Statement 1.3 (Practice)

Books Treasure, Inc. has shown a fairly good sales growth
over the past three years. Based on the sales growth in the
last three years, predict the sales for the next two years.
Task
Predict the future values of the next two years using the Trend
function.

commonly occurring value?
2. Higher standard deviation is often interpreted as
unpredictability. (True/False)

Summary

In this session, you learned that:

The SUMIF function checks the value in each cell of a range
before adding the contents of specified cells to a total.
The SUMPRODUCT function calculates the product of
corresponding values and returns their sum.
Logical function evaluates an expression and returns either
a true or false value. Some of the logical functions are:
IF
NESTED IF
AND

OR
NOT
TRUE
FALSE
Statistical functions are used for collection, presentation,
analysis, and interpretation of numerical data.
Variance helps in analyzing the extent to which items
deviate or vary from one another or from a standard or
central value.
Standard deviation is defined as the measure of how widely
values are dispersed from the average value (the mean).
