Safeguarding Cardiac Function


Keep patient hemodynamically stable
Check vital signs as per Hospital protocol

Monitor cardiac output


Signs of decreased cardiac outpit include:

Tachycardia Cool extremities Diminished peripheral pulses Change in mentation Decreased urine output Hypotension

Dysrhythmias usually occur on 2nd or 3rd post of
day

ATRIAL FIBRILLATION
Causes myocardial ischemia, reduced cardiac output decreased BP 15% to 40% of post CABG patients 37% to 50% of post Valve surgery patients Up to 60% of post CABG & Valve surgery patients Factors the increase patients risk of AF Older age, mitral valve disese, History of AF, COPD, no pre-op beta blocker
