ABOUT P1PROMOTIONS
Coty Mallicoat is 26 years old and is from a small town in Iowa. Coty first started a small video productions site in 2006 called Winged Racer Productions. He did this business until 2010 and then realized he could do something with more variety and he was already doing more PR work then videotaping. His first event for P1Promotions was for ALS in February of 2013. He raised money to help a racing friend that had ALS. Coty also started doing write ups for a local band and one of his friends who raced on the Speed Channel. After moving to Pennsylvania he met new people who wanted him to build websites, design race suits and do weekly write ups for race teams. Although he works full time at Hoosier, he now has a wide client base and does this as side work hoping to one day make this a full time job. Working at Hoosier has helped him meet new race teams that need a public relations specialist to help them get sponsors for their race cars.

INTERVIEW
1) What is your favorite thing about a career in public relations?
A) Working with a wide variety of people, especially the high profile people. I enjoy seeing my name on their press releases, newsletters and race cars.

2) What is the biggest challenge of a career in public relations?

A) Making sure all the information is correct before you publish it. You need to know all the information that your client wants and to have an open communication relationship with them. Understanding what they want and mean is key.

3) Whats the coolest job/ gig youve gotten to do?

A) I loved working with my friend (Cam) and his pro off road racing team. Its hooked me up with a lot of people in a different type of market then Im used to. Its gotten me more understanding of the sponsor game and how its different than dirt track racing. The connections that Ive made with new people is awesome.

INTERVIEW CONTINUED
4) What type of degree do you have and why did you choose it?
A) I have an associates degree in liberal arts. I was kind of forced into that if I wanted to graduate sooner. Transferring from a journalism program at a university to a junior college made it harder to get the degree I wanted. I then started working a full time job and put off going back to school.

5) Do you think that a four year degree would be better for your client base and get you more jobs?
A) Maybe. A lot of the work that I do involves knowledge with the racing background. Probably if I would have followed through with the four year degree at ISU I would have a better understanding of the whole PR specialist aspect but I have learned a lot on my own. I dont think it is critical that I have a degree in PR or journalism. Most of my clients know my racing background and history and that is enough for P1Promotions right now.
